Any idea on how to get a teaching job in Mobile. I have applied online but it seems you need to know someone. Any schools that are often looking.

I lived in Mobile my whole life, yes it’s very cliquish. To get a good job in Mobile you need to know someone. Even people who’ve lived in Mobile their whole life have a hard time finding a decent job unless they know someone in the “in crowd”. Good Luck!

That's pretty much the case anywhere, best I can tell. Once you get your foot in the door, all is well. But sometimes breaking the ice is the hard part.

Teaching has a high turnover though, so there should be vacancies almost all the time. Some reasons are the job is hard as the dickens, doesn't pay much, and is stressful and dangerous at times. Otherwise, it's fine.

Good luck to the OP.

Nah.

It's always easier to know people anywhere, but certainly not almost a requirement like it is in Mobile and I guess other smaller areas.

I had a pretty easy time getting call backs in from areas vs. Mobile when I finished school.

In Mobile, most if not all my educated friends got their jobs through connection they made from living in the area and haven't really had many options to leave those jobs.

People act like cliques are some monolithic thing in Mobile. It is not so.

You'd necessarily have to believe these suspected "cliques" would need to be orders of magnitude larger than "cliques" typically are to have an affect on jobs in a metro with over 650,000 people...

I found a job now what is next. What do you look for in a school. I see it is a failing school I just want experience and then hope to transfer to a bigger area.
