Default Moving To Mobile

Being transferred to Mobile and know nothing about the area. Single, looking to rent a 2/ or 3/1 in a quiet area. Will be working in the downtown area

Any suggestions?

Can any one tell me about the demographics of the Chickasaw area?

will be moving from Jacksonville FL. I have a map of Mobile, divided by zip codes, and been researching Craigs list, but guess the only to learn the area is to get lost in it.

Chicasaw is quiet and ver very small, but I think you would do better living in mid town.Chicasaw realy doesn`t offer much in apartment options, because it realy is a small little place between Prichard and Saraland. The best way to learn Mobile would be to get lost in it. If I`m not mistaken Chicasaw would be about a 10 min drive from mobile using I -65 and I- 165 driving in the city would take you about 30 min you would havr drive tghrough another city(Prichard)for your job. Welcome to Mobile hope you like it !!

lol, but he`s from jacksonville though no offense(digger1) there are Prichard type of areas in Jacksonville aswell southernaturelover. As long as he doesn`t stop and sk for directions he will be ok. I have drove, and walked the streets of Prichard several times and have never had problems.

Jax is not my native city, but like most cities, you can 6 blocks and in slums or expensive subdivisions.

what I am looking for is quiet residential (aren't we all)-not apartments. Looked over at Eastern Shores, but the cost of gas will continue to rise, making it too expensive to drive to work, and not being able to afford to stay home!!!

So maybe around the Univeristy, Chickasaw, etc....any info will be helpful

Chickasaw was once an area of mostly elderly citizens but there have been a lot of younger people moving into the area in the last several years (especially the historic district) because of the cheaper house prices. I sold my house there about five years ago but my mother still lives there. There is not much to do in Chickasaw (will change when the racetrack and numerous restaraunts are built in nearby Saraland/Prichard) but it is quiet and I don't think the crime rate is bad on the north side. It takes about 10 minutes to get downtown (Interstate 165 all the way which is an elevated interstate so you don't have to go through Prichard). There is only one apartment complex in Chickasaw but most people rent houses. The houses in the historic district are very similar to those in Midtown (built in the 40's and 50's) but the rent is cheaper. My advice is to take a look around first and definately stay north of West Lee Street. The avenue side is transitioning and crime is picking up but I don't see it affecting the north side.

University is a great area ,while Chicasaw is closer to downtown, living on University would be a plus close to shopping, food, nightlife.

University Blvd south of Cottage Hill Rd will be called Demetropolis Road. That area is nice and would be convenient to Hwy 90 which leads into downtown. I used to travel that road frequently.
