Danny'snana are you going to be working once you move?
What are you looking for in an area? Do you want to be close the water? What is your price range? Do you want rural, big city or small city?
AL is a great place to live.

Hello Keeper,
A walk around kind of town.
Work would not be high on the list of must have.
I do love historical homes most.
Thank's

hmm.. then either place would fit your needs. Fairhope is a laid back town and walkable. No Walmart since the town wouldn't let them in. Lots of little shops and very artsy. For the most part, it would be a great place for retirees, very safe area. It is right on Mobile Bay. Some really pretty older homes. Nice pier and some good restaurants.
Mobile if you are looking for a bigger city. If you live downtown it is walkable, although I am not sure how safe at night. Mobile has beautiful old historic homes with lots of history. A few haunted houses are around too. Midtown is an older part of town with some really cute bungalows and homes. Some folks who live there can tell you the areas to be leary of in Midtown. You would have to drive or take a bus to get around to malls etc if you live in midtown. If you are renting there are some reasonable safe apts in midtown.

I rarely see snakes in Midtown, usually they are the brown harmless kind. I saw snakes, scary poisonous ones , all the time when we lived past Snow Road in West Mobile, well- it's really the county. They would be at my back door sometimes- rattlesnakes, moccasins- because we lived on a lake. It was scary to weed and then you have to deal with that horrible Japanese-type weed grass. I don't miss living out there one bit. I don't even have fire ant hills in my yard.

If one cannot afford the midtown area, which is absolutely lovely by the way, which areas should we look at in Mobile in the under 200 range, assuming job is at one of the hospitals. I work in maternity, so that would dictate which hospital I would be interested in. Can't say which, still doing research on area first. We are coming back for a second look in July. It took us by surprise how much we liked it based on the quick trip thru we took last week. We liked Fairhope also, but not sure if we want to shutdown that early or take that drive over the bridge for work.
Thanks...

Is your SO going to be working in Mobile, if so where?
I am assuming.. you mean 200K to buy a house?
Fairhope and Foley both have small hospitals. Mobile Infirmary and Providence both have maternity wards. Not sure if there are any others in Mobile.

Hubby is retired. But we have a grown daughter who would like to move into whatever city her parents finally settle down into, and she is in IT or IS, whatever the proper term is. Have been checking out the northern gulf coast lately. Have another week long trip slotted for mid July for ......?

Providence Hospital has lots of job openings right now. If you were to work at Providence you would want to live in the southwest section of Mobile. Plenty of good subdivisions near Hillcrest and Cottage Hill Roads.

There is now a Wal-Mart in Daphne, near Fairhope. I know because we stay there in our motorhome on the way to Gulf Shores......it's right off the Interstate on the left, but tucked way back in some trees with a MISSABLE SIGN. Have to be looking for it.

I too moved recently from WA state and found the transition to be pretty easy. Mobile is very accomodating, welcoming, beautiful, etc., etc.,. I heart Mobile.
