Away and Missing it is on a distinguished road
Fairhope is a beautiful and well-guarded secret, if young live in mobiel, if your looking to lay back and enjoy small and well maintained southern town charm-Fairhope and Daphne in Baldwin COunty is the palce to be. I lived in both places and still visit often. Mobile is the City and Fairhope/Daphne is the suburbs-only way to describe it to an outsider. City means more crime..

I have to say Fairhope! I lived there for about seven months before moving to Birch Bay, Washington and totally loved it. I would move back there in a heartbeat. It's one of the most beautiful areas I have visited across this country. The people are super friendly and very welcoming. Fairhope is located close enough to stores like Target and Wal-Mart if you like shopping there with many interesting shops in downtown area and malls not far away.

I love the fact that it's only a short ride down to Gulf Shores to take walks along the beach and search for sand dollars and shells, a variety of restaurants all within fifteen minutes of Fairhope.

It's just a beautiful, little slower paced place to live then over in Mobile which is busier with more traffic, ect...

I suggest you visit both places if you haven't already and see which you like more. Mobile isn't far from Fairhope if you want to do more 'city life' activites also.

Very nice family oriented Mardi Gras parades in Fairhope and surrounding towns which can be furn for people of all ages.

That Wal-Mart has been there for over 10 years....but Fairhope keeps one from moving into their nice little town every time they try to move in.

Lisa,

A brand new super WalMart has been in Fairhope for 3 years already. It is on Fairhope Avenue and 181(used to be hwy 27)...about 3 miles east of downtown Fairhope. It is beautiful and even though people fought it, it went through.
On June 22, they will open a new strip mall on 98 and Parker Rd, just south of entrance to Rock Creek, and the big news it will have a new Publix...containing 54,000 square feet. The one in Orange Beach is great, and this will be the same. So we are coming up in the world.
I wanted to move to Seattle, but my hubby insisted on the South, warm weather, ect. I guess he was right...it is very nice here and we have much better weather.

lordsbaby,
Please check out the Eastern Shore, Daphne, Fairhope and Spanish Fort...all in Baldwin county. Great lifestyles and much less crime than in Mobile. In Fairhope, we are 30 minute drive, or less, to downtown Mobile, and much more family friendly.

The market has picked up but the prices on real estate are still holding and there are good buys out here.
Our weather is fine. We have had some hurricanes, but other states have floods, tornadoes, earthquakes, and in comparison we fare real well. Come on down and see how beautiful it is...

I just purchased 3 copies at Books a Million. It has a great picture of Barbara, the tomato lady, and she wanted a copy. Yes, they keep writing articles about Fairhope and people keep moving down here. I think it's great, because there are so many empty lots and houses, and they need to be occupied. The developers, and builders went crazy 5 years ago, and got stuck with all of these. Same happened in Daphne.
My husband is in real estate so we welcome newcomers. One of these years we might not feel the same....LOL!

So true about the empty houses and endless supply of lots all over the county. Growth is good and the areas are really nice, but I don't know what these developers were thinking. You have to have a big job base to support what they were thinking. Could you imagine if all these lots were built on and occupied with an average of two vehicles per household what the traffic would be like and all the road widenings that would be needed. It would be like em..... Atlanta in the mid 90s road construction and gridlock everwhere ya go. Thankfully it's not that bad and the area is beautiful, hopefully like you said some of these developements will suceed down the road.
