Forbes article this year made it appear that Mobile was really set to have a growth spurt, as well as, Huntsville. Anybody living in Mobile hear anything like that from your papers or tv? What's going on there and how long is this boom predicted to last? From the article I gathered from 2007-12.

Pretty much, the entire state is on the move, whether it's Huntsville, Mobile, Birmingham, or even Montgomery.

Mobile is expected to boom because of the port expansion and all. With the problems at New Orleans ports, Mobile is set to be the #1 in the Gulf of Mexico. Huntsville has always been booming, Montgomery had a late start but its going as well, Birmingham is getting Atlanta style suburban growth. So really the entire state of Alabama is growing very very fast.

Honestly, I don't want Alabama to grow too fast (like the Atlanta area or NC), but I'm making sure to get my ten (or more) acres while I can. But yes, the Mobile area is growing quickly. Some areas of Baldwin County look completely different from just a decade ago. I think Mobile may have some problems though, the street grid there is not very well laid out.

Houston is a good gulf port, but considering where a lot of what is offloaded from the port goes, Mobile is a better logistical choice.

In Mobile, you sit at the mouth of the Tenn-Tom waterway, which means you can ship to any port along the Mississippi, Tennessee, Missouri, or Ohio Rivers. Houston doesn't confer that advantage.
Actually, New Orleans was the primo port on the Gulf, but squandered it with inefficiency, and political corruption. |

I wish L was there now!!! They have so much, with the military, oil industry, and the steel industry. I want to be on Daulphin Island. I think homes are cheaper there too
