I know they are in a good part of town and they are near our mall and in midtown. I live 1 mile from them maybe less. I can look up some more if you need me to.

Don't worry about the long commute the university is pretty much close to everything. Here are some apartments that are very nice called Lenox Gates. They have a 2 bedroom 1 bath for 740. Very nice place though and near South Alabama and close to everything else.

Luxury Mobile Apartments - Lenox Gates Apartment Homes

Hope this helps!

"She's got a bachelor's degree and three years of experience as a newspaper reporter, but she's willing to get out of the field if necessary. She would like to continue writing in some capacity if possible."

She could work at the Press Register here. I'm sure they have some good paying jobs and salaries for writers.

Dauphine is not bad, but I would recommend many others above it. There is a large thread on apartments somewhere in this Mobile forum in which you can find any apartment answers you want.

new beginning

If you can look past the bickering (which I take a part of too unfortunately ), this thread will provide some good apartment insight. I think there is another one too, but I am out of time to search. Darn work .

I used to live at Timber Ridge apartments and I loved it there. They have washer and dryer hook ups, fireplace, 2 pools, a gym, and garages. They may be pricier then what you want to pay though. My rent for a one bedroom was $610 when I lived there.

I can not help you with apartment information. I can tell you, I do not think you are making a mistake moving here. My wife and I have loved this place ever since we moved here.

As someone already said, try Mobile Press Register. They also have all these niche publications as well they put out like BayFamily , From House to Home.
A favorite magazine in the area is Mobile Bay Monthly. An alternative paper is Lagniappe.
