My Nice mountain bike and several yard tools where stolen. a seperate ocasion my neighbor chased down the criminal and retrieved my goods. I had a break in at 2 am with my wife and 2 year old son in the house with me and I chased him out myself that time.
My neighbor had a man trying to come in his house and ran off when the wife went to the door to see what was going on.
Two houses down the man had his shed broken into and tools stolen.
The house at the corner of Topic and airport was burned to the ground.
There was a house down the street on old government that was Burned by an arrson and the old lady that lived there was killed.
My then wifes car was vandalized.
This was around the same time that man was shot dead in his car in front of walgreens.
I have been living in theodore with the "meth labs" for the past two years With no problems.
I love the houses and look of midtown/ downtown area but to say it's safe is nieve, Sorry. It may be fine for you but don't try to sugar coat it for others.
These are just my experiancs and they all took place in less than a years time.
I've lived in mobile most of my life. When I was a teenager /early teens (about 12-13 years ago) I lived in mid town as well with simular results. Lived on keenan st witch is not a "bad" area car was broken into twice that go around.
I worked down town on Dauphin street at pickle fish when they first opened. I can tell you some pretty scary stories about douphin st late at night.
Like I said. If it's what you like thats fine. But you can't dispute the fact that downtown and midtown has a serious crime problem.
Just read the news.
There will be crime in every part of the city but it is way more concentrated in and around downtown as it is in any city. Thats is just fact.

I certainly understand that you weren't able to handle living in an urban area and how terrible to have your house broken into at 2 a.m.
Did you have your house alarm on? If you didn't have one, the criminals probably targeted you. I certainly hope you have one in Theodore, because you will need it eventually. Everyone needs to have a house alarm.
Breaking into the garages for the tools will happen, especially when people don't secure them properly-a detail you left out. DID the neighbors lock their garages? You make it sound like there are roving bands of tool thieves and that's not really how it is...
I take issue with several "stories" that you are putting forth as "fact". I'm not saying i don't believe you; get us some links about "the man who was shot outside Walgreen's". I'm assuming you are talking about the Loop Walgreen's not the Oakleigh area Walgreens.
I knew the late next door neighbor of the lady who died in her house. They never said that was arson.
The house at the corner of Topic that burned was a business, not a house. A type of floral business.
And when exactly did Picklefish open? Quite a while ago- would love it if you would give a date. Picklefish has been there at least 7 years I've been down here and I think it's been there much longer than that. The downtown of 1990s was very different from the downtown and midtown of today.
We lived way out past Snow Road and had cars broken into. Had our home broken into twice in the country and from then on, we have always had an alarm. We had a car stolen in Spring Hill area, also. It can happen anywhere, especially in places where people feel safe and let down their guard.
But we haven't had anything stolen here in midtown more than some ladders.... and that was our fault for leaving them out on the porch. It ended up being one of the workers who stole them.
So I can say that I've had FAR more crime occur to me in the country and/or suburbs than in this city.
Me and all my friends have been so happy here and we regularly have laughs about the dumb stuff people say sometimes about "how can you be living down here?!" like we live in a dangerous section of New Orleans. It becomes really obnoxious, particularly
when we are not experiencing crime.
Believe me, if I was worried here and not happy, I'd be out of here- back to the country. Crime is NOT bad here and that's why my property values and taxes are going sky high, because everyone wants to move here. Sold signs everywhere in Midtown.
There are more people in Mobile proper than any of the other areas so of course, there will be more "crime" incidents. But personally, again,
I've had less crime here than my other areas I lived in. I keep everything locked up but I always did that.
