Default Possibly Relocating to Mobile, help!

My wife and I are possibly relocating to the Mobile area for a job. I would be working in Axis and she would likely work at USA downtown. Any suggestions of where to look? We're some what familiar with Daphne, but I've been reading about troubles getting over the bay. We currently live east of Atlanta, and we both drive about an hour each way. Obviously it'd be great to shorten that, but I don't want to live in a craphole either. Ideas/suggestions?

What type of area do you prefer? Rural, city, small friendly town, beachy, etc... Are schools an issue? Also, what size lot, house and price range?

Well we don't have any kids as of now, but obviously would like to be in a good primary district. We're looking for something with 1/2 acre or more in the 200-275 range. Since I would have to head up 65 to Axis, and she'll be in the city, we'll need something that not on the interstate, but that doesn't have ridiculous access either. Thanks.

Atltig: I wish that Mobile County had a real working, "live" school zone locator - but since it doesn't yet, you will have to call the county to determine zoned schools.

The city of Saraland has its own K-12 district separate from the rest of Mobile County.

Baldwin County has its own school district too.

Since you have to go to Axis, I would also recommend Saraland/ Satsuma for the school district (it has just broken off from Mobile County; I would think things will be fine for it, though) and decent commute for you both. She would be able to quickly get to USA (either Midtown's or the one on University).

There are also some great magnet schools for middle school and elementary, but this is a "win the lottery to get in" situation. Chickasaw Math and Science and (Clark for middle) are close by for you.

I also forgot that you could live across the Bay and access Axis to I-65 via Bay Minette; your wife would cross the Bayway or the Causeway(my preference- less traffic). It's not bad as long as you are right across the bay, not having to go to Fairhope or someplace like that. Schools are good- look at Spanish Fort or Dapne, rather than Bay Minette. There is also Bayside Academy, or a Catholic K-8th school in Daphne for private education.

Good luck!

Axis is north Mobile...Saraland/Satsuma is the area you need. Easy access to downtown and Axis as well.
