Default Hotel Recommendations for Scouting Mobile area

Can anyone give me hotel and/or extended stay recommendations in the Mobile area? (Cheaper would be better, but safe areas would be a priority.) My husband and I are flying down over Thanksgiving to scout out the Mobile area, Eastern Shore, and over to Pensacola - so something centrally located would be best.

And speaking of Thanksgiving, does anyone know of any good restaurants that would be open that day?

I recommend staying in Fairhope for at least a few days. The Barons by the Bay is an older motel style motel, but looks like it has been updated since I stayed there a couple of years ago. You are right across the bay and right in town.

There is also a Key West Inn and a Holiday Inn Express HWY98. They aren't bad and fairly reasonable. There are also a couple of B&Bs.

Be sure to go to Julwins for breakfast preferably during the week. Good food but you will get a chance to see/hear locals talking about the area. Real folksy. Be sure to take a walk on the pier at sunset. I haven't eaten at the restaurant there recently but it was good the last time I went there. If they have fried crab claws.. be sure to try them.. Yummy

You have to be careful about where you stay in Mobile especially some areas off of I-10. Hopefully one of our regulars will give you some ideas of a safe place that is reasonable. Mobile is a beautiful city. Lots of history and beautiful old homes. My hometown.

If you are exploring Mobile, Pensecola, and Eastern Shore ... then technically a hotel off I-10 in Daphne/Spanish Fort would be the most central location. If you want suggestions on the safer areas of Mobile to go exploring, just PM me - it's my hometown, and I know what it's like to explore cities when you have no clue what areas are good or not. I've done that with St. Louis, Chicago, Phoenix, etc. Can be fun, but can also be discomforting at times lol. Mobile, on a much, much smaller scale, can be the same way for explorers.

Default With these hotels, you can go to Trip Advisor and read reviews

We have some awesome hotels in Downtown Mobile, which would really be about the same distance roughly as staying in a boring hotel in Spanish Fort, but there is a Hilton Garden Inn East Bay/Daphne ($113 per night) right at I-10 & HWY 98.

You want to be right by I-10's Bayway. If you stay downtown Mobile you have access to more restaurants, museums, etc. You are merely separated from the Eastern shore and Downtown Mobile by just a bridge.
I think I would honestly shoot myself if my family made me stay in Spanish Fort rather than downtown Mobile.

My picks for downtown would be: Holiday Inn Downtown, actually pretty nice like a Hilton with a big renovation. The hotel just brought on one of the chefs from Brennan's in New Orleans. During that time: $108 per night

Renaissance Riverview- tall, high-rise type hotel, new renovation, really nice. $159 per night

The Battle House Hotel- our only 4 star hotel and it is awesome! Grand Historic Hotel $189 Just finished the spa.
Mobile, Alabama Hotel & Spa: The Battle House, A Renaissance Downtown Mobile Hotel

Probably both the Battle House and Renaissance will have Thanksgiving meals. I'm sure other places may as well.

There is also the Radisson Admiral Semmes, but it had bad reviews. Another historic hotel. Keep in mind, we have a horrible labor/service worker problem.

Bed and Breakfasts in area: Berney/Fly B & B, My Victorian Inn, Malaga Inn $112 (the last two are in downtown residential area- quite lovely.)
Malaga Inn - Historic Inn Located in Mobile, Alabama

Bed and Breakfast Mobile,
AL Lodging Downtown Mobile Mardi Gras

Berney/Fly is great, it's just a mile west on Government so you would have to drive all over the place rather than walk. Beautiful live oaks and mansions surround you.

Default Trip Dates - Refined

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions! I think we're going to stay in the Mobile area the first three nights and the Fairhope area the last two nights. We were hoping to find places under $100/night, preferably below $75/night. Since we just need a place to sleep, we don't need a super swank place to stay.

Does anyone know anything about the Wind Chase Inn in Loxley?
