After living in Dallas and Tampa, Mobile is a peice of cake. We are in Baldwin Co now and are dying to move to Mobile. As soon as the house sells.... LOL. I go to Mobile frequently, I have never felt unsafe. Shoot, I've felt more concern for my life simply driving on the freeway in certain parts of Dallas.

If you lived in Toronto, I can't imagine Mobile seeming scary in comparison.

I guess what I mean about the crime- it's safe but many people think it's frightening to live in Midtown or Downtown Mobile. They think it's not safe, but it is. They freak out because there are a few homeless people. There is some petty crime( i.e. stealing furniture off porches) but we've never had problems. CAN it happen? I'm sure it could, but it seems to happen to people who don't lock doors and aren't careful.

Midtown Mobile will be friendlier if you were able to compare places to actually live. I don't mean just visiting shops in Fairhope vs Mobile. I'm talking about living in the neighborhoods, comparison-wise.
Thanks so much, I haven't lived in Toronto since 2002 and the crime has increased there since I left...I read some comparisons on crime and bascially for every 1 murder in Toronto there are something like 32 in mobile but the largest amount of crime seemed to be property crime. I don't spend my whole life thinking about things like that anyhow, I just wanted to check it out. If it feels pretty safe for those living in the good areas, that should be fine for me.

The humidity might be hard to take after living in AZ.

Thanks for your post keeper!

Yeh, when all I knew was Mobile I thought it was a piece of cake. Now, it's even more so lol. Not that it's a bad thing to be a piece of cake.

Does Prichard's crime rate get lumped in with Mobile's? That's where most of the shootings happen.

I believe Prichard's is seperated from Mobile. However - Toulmanville, Maysville, and other sub-communities of course get lumped in and don't help Mobile's cause at all when it comes to crime statistics. I really hope those communities improve over time. I worked in Maysville for 3 years and personally loved all of the people I knew from that community. It's really unfortunate that it's a more dangerous part of the city.

You are absolutely right. Years ago I had a job where I had to work with "work release" inmates, and you wouldn't believe the number of them that came out of Maysville. I worked with one who shot his cousin after a dice game and another who killed his stepson.

Default Do you worry much about hurricanes?

Do you worry much about hurricanes, or is that just a part of life and nothing you really think of until there is a warning/ Do you get evacuated often? Also is home insurance expensive there?
