It is beautiful and I love it here (I've lived here twice) but after about 2 1/2 years of being out in the middle of no where, whith few imminities other than groceries and Walgreens I start to crave more conveniences. Also I don't really feel a real community here. It is so transient - 2 years ago I had so many friends and now most have moved away.

One thing I'd love to have in Fairhope...Costco. There is a Sam's Club in Daphne but I prefer Costco.

And I wish for more restaurants intown...mainly ones that are open for dinner. People here are not into chain restaurants, and if they need to, they drive to Daphne or Spanish Fort. But we need like a Tapas Bar, or neat small bites place. The latest sushi place, Master Joes, is doing great, and it has awesome food. There are several Chinese places, none really wonderful. Good opportunities for someone in the business if it's done right to open at the corner of Fairhope Av and Section Street...at the clock. I know the owner and it is for sale (or rent). Anyone interested?

The people in the south are so nice!
Adventuregurl: I am thinking about spending part of the winter (renting) in the area of the McGuireville interchange: (where the Cornville Rd intersects w/ I-17), i.e. The Beaver Creek area.
I will have a 4 yr old Brittany with me. Can you give me an idea as to the avg high & low temps for January? My proposed rental has a fenced dog run area and dog house. I will be doing some quail hunting with the dog in appropriate areas. He is "Snake Broke" and fully trained in all respects--both obedience wise & bird hunting.

Questions: Since you are a dog owner, could you recommend a Vet in that general area (in case I need one). I believe Sedona is about 20 minutes away, and Cottonwood is about 15.

Also, am I correct to assume that the shopping for "everyday type" needs including groceries, would be more economical in Cottonwood, than Sedona.
And what about restaurant selection in Cottonwood?

I welcome any of your thoughts and comments regarding my choosing this area. Thank you for the information.

Hi Montana Griz,

It's a beautiful area, especially in the winter. It can get cold though so be prepared. At night it can be in the teens and 20s sometimes...the day is much warmer (at higher altitudes, it's only the sun that keeps things warm). Sedona is at 4500 feet, not quite sure about McGuireville.

My favorite vet moved away but I like one in Cottonwood, Dr. Celeste Flannery of Airpark Animal Hospital (you can google them) and I also like Dr. Kinney at Oak Creek Small Animal Clinic in Sedona.

My current dog is a maletese so she doesn't hike with me (actually she doesn't even like stepping on stones), but my previous dog, a golden did. You won't have to worry at all about snakes in the winter, they all hibernate.

Cottonwood is cheaper for most items as there is a super Walmart and a Frys. I hate to have to shope at Walmart but that's about all we have for many items.

Good luck and I hope that helps!

Where is the closest Costco?

I saw the sushi place, glad to see that they have one. I loved Panini Pete's, they have an awesome ahi tuna salad mmmmmm!

Adventuregurl........................

I owe you an apology...........I hi-jacked your thread yesterday....I truly did not mean to be so inconsiderate. I guess when I saw that you lived in Sedona, I just implusively jumped at the chance to get some "hands-on" information. Again, I apologize, and I thank you for your comments and information.

I wish you luck in finding a place that satisfies your desires.

adventuregurl,

The closest Costco is Montgomery, 2 1/2 hrs away. We would love to have one in the Eastern Shore or Mobile area...Who knows.

I am glad you liked Panini Pete's. We are very fortunate to have him here....but wish he'd open a Tapas place or something similar. He had thought about it but got cold feet. Pete is a graduate of the CIA(Culinary Institute of America), and is capable of much more than just sandwiches, ect. Maybe he'll do it one of these days.(I'm bugging him all the time about this). Next time try Master Joe's. It is great, and is full of young "yuppie" crowd at night.

Humacaena,

Wow 2 1/2 hours, that's sad, maybe there is one in Pensacola, it's closer.

I will try Master Joe's next time, thanks!
