Default Battle House & Spa

I've stayed at the Battle House and go eat there often. It is one of the most beautiful hotels I've ever seen, and I've been to Hotel Danieli in Venice, Italy. The rooms are wonderful (historic section-never stayed in the tower part) with really nice bathrooms. I'm staying again for two nights during Mardi Gras. Can't wait. Trellis Room is not that great, though, in my opinion. Spa is also very, very nice. It just opened so only went once.

I'm 40 ish and wouldn't want to live in Fairhope if I were young like you. I don't want to live there at my age. Unless you like old fogies who enjoy blocking the left lane on a regular basis, going 35 down HWY 98.

Live in Spanish Fort(10 minutes across Bay Way or Causeway)or Malbis exit so you don't have a big commute. Why have a big commute? There's always West Mobile, but ugh..... Fairhope and Hwy 98 crawl DOUBLE UGH....

You really should live in Midtown. Traffic is not bad in Midtown; it's bad in West Mobile. A lot of sitting/waiting for traffic lights.

If I were you, I would rent a place in midtown and see how you like it. IIRC many of the streets have block parties which is a great way to meet your neighbors. I have a friend who lives across from Murphy HS in a duplex.

If you are still looking for a small and rural feel without a long commute then Saraland or Satsuma would be a good area to check into. I work a block from the Battle House and live in Satsuma. It takes about 15 minutes to get to work.

No. Midtown definitely does not stretch west of I-65. Most would say the western border of Midtown is Sage Ave ... or at least that's what I'd say .

Anyone know the general consensus on North/South borders? I'd say Spring Hill Ave. and Governmet Blvd. (with a few neighborhoods/areas south of Government as exceptions). I'd say Broad St. would be the eastern border ... although would not object to a difference on opinion regarding that choice.

If you go by my boundaries on a map, Midtown is prettymuch shaped like a slice of pizza.

Where is the ThyssenKrupp plant in relationship to this area? Where is a good place to rent if you get a job there?

I think you are right about the borders

i have lived in mobile for most of my life. i am a home builder for mor than 40 years, family of builders.across the bay ,the cost is higher, taxes are too but resale is good. mobile is conjested now and prices are good but resale is not good ,it will take several years to come back. south is good ,reasonable but stay north of I-10,insurance is the problem here.depends on if you want land or close neighbors to in town or county area.if i can help just ask.

I would suggest renting in a place near where you may want to purchase a home. Of course, now is a great time to buy a home! Check out a new community of new homes in Theodore, AL called Labrador Run. It's at Dawes Lane Ext. south of Three Notch, it's exactly 3 miles North of I-10 and a total of 20 mins commute downtown. It's so beautifully rural and safe in that area, but just 2 miles to a new Wal-Mart...could be the best of both worlds! Good Luck and welcome to Mobile

That's not what we've been reading in the papers! My mother lives in Fairhope and i see firsthand how much longer the houses over there stay on the market than Mobile. In my area of Midtown, houses sell often before they even hit the market. But I imagine out in some of those neighborhoods out there, it's hard to find buyers when every tree is wiped out.

I guess it's all perspective: I think it's congested only in WAY West Mobile and HWY 98 all the way past Fairhope. I don't have much traffic here in Midtown, by Midtown I don't mean Spring Hill! West of I-65 is NOT Midtown!
