I would ask on the FL forum. That is going to be a LONG drive so I would try to stay close to the interstate.

Might want to check out the Milton or Pace area in Florida. Make sure the tuition break will make for the higher property taxes you'll pay in Florida, plus the fuel cost and time to commute back and forth to Mobile. Ideally if you could live in Alabama and your wife was going to school in Florida, then the Loxley area would put you half way between both.

TK still in the works--where do we go?????
Thanks so much for all the info so far, but now I need even more! It is looking like an even greater possibility that we may be moving south very soon.
We are a young family with two kids ages 5 and 2 and education is extremely important to us both. We are looking at homes in the $120,000-200,000. We both grew up in a rural and a very small (3500 people) Indiana farming community but we have lived in larger college towns and in the Chicago-land region for the past 8 years.
So far it seems that most people are in agreement that Satsuma and Saraland seem to be the best choice for living and working out at TK. What are the pros and cons of both towns? What about Creola? Citronelle? I think we would love the MidTown area but I am guessing that is going to be a hell of a commute for him, and safety is a concern. How friendly are all these communities I mentioned? What areas would you recommend for resale? We will probably be relocating again in 3-5 years.

Midtown, around Murphy High School is nice. I'm looking at spending somewhere in that range by the end of the year for a house around MHS. That may, however, be quite a drive, although you will only be about 10-15 minutes from the interstate.

I love the idea of a walkable area. I really want the 'neighborhood' feel in my next home. Especially since I will more than likely be telecommuting or staying at home with the children, I want to be in an area where I can meet people easily, but I don't want my husband to be stuck in traffic for an hour either.
Do you think that commute from Midtown to TK would be difficult? How about schools in that area? Would I have to put my 5 year old in private school?
This is such a great website, and I thank everyone for the information and advice.

Leinkauf would most likey be the school for your 5 year old, so you shouldn`t have to worry about private school. Midtown is huge so it all depends but if you are in the Murphy area then no. My best option for you is to take Airport blvd to I-65 which is about 4 miles. I-65 will take you on out to the Calvert(Tk)work site. I-65 traffic is a breeze so you don`t have to worry, there is a nice volume of traffic on I-65 but it flows like a river.
