Once the new distribution center is finished, they will be able to expand all across the gulf coast including New Orleans.
The new Consumer Reports rated Publix in the top 5 grocery chains in the country while Win-Dixie and Wal-mart were both near the bottom.
Another rumored spot for a publix is at the corner of snow and airport, but I have hope against hope that they will build one near downtown.
As far as Airport service roads, They would work so much better if they were one-way roads. The left lane could be merging with Airport and the right lane would be available for turning into businesses. Then, at lights one could make U turns to go the other direction.
It would be fantastic if Airport was limited access with bridges over the major intersections, but that will never happen.

I would love it if the rumors were true regarding Airport/Snow RD location for Publix. That is an area with rapid growth as shown by the recent widening of Airport. I would think that location would be a great alternative for the already overcrowding at Walmart schillinger location!! WE NEED PUBLIX IN WEST MOBILE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Mom tried shopping at the Publix in Pensacola and she said she likely won't go back. She said everything looked nice and clean but everything was also overpriced. I don't know, I'll have to try it for myself someday.

I will put my .02 having shopped at Publix for over 30 years in FL.. I love Publix. They are a little more expensive on some things however they carry an excellent variety and their deli is GREAT. They have wonderful cakes, pastry and sandwiches. They will also order you anything you want or need. They have their own meat cutters in the store. Meat is more expensive than some stores but they have some great pre made items that are good. They believe in customer service and every store I have been in the employees were very courteous.
Watch the ads for the specials.. You will find the prices to be the same as other stores.

100% right Keeper. Customer service is excellent, and if you shop wisely you can get some excellent deals. A lot of the Publix brand stuff is very good and reasonably priced.

Regarding special ordering. I make several Cuban dishes that call for a dried chorizos which is easily found in any store in Tampa, FL. When I moved to AL I could not find the 'dried' only the fresh in the Publix stores. I talked to the meat market mgr and he said they would be happy to order it for me as they don't normally carry it because most ppl bought the 'fresh'.
I agree with 7spider.. their own brand is really really good. They make their own breads and cakes in the store. YUMMY

The Eastern Shore was lacking good French Bread...and Publix has the best around.Try making French toast with this bread...Yummo!!! The meats might be a bit more, but they are fresh and good quality. Shop the ones on sale...the same with the rest of the items. I've been buying their brand cereal, cheaper than brand name at cheaper stores(ie Wal Mart).
And Keeper is correct..they have great customer service. I will ask our manager for chorizos now that I know this....Thanks Keeper! The Latin products are abundant, more than any other store out here. The cleaning products, Publix brand, are also very reasonable and good quality.
Fruits and vegetables are a bit more than other stores...but again, buy sale items, or tell the produce manager how much they are at another store, and you will get that price. They did this in Atlanta, and I assume they will do so here also. It's a pleasure shopping at Publix and we are so thankful for them being here.

Publix reminds me of the old Delchamps. It's very nice, bright, and your shoes dont stick to the floor when you walk. Plus, the ones that were in Tallahassee had free ATM access...They are a little more priceier than the other grocery stores but sometimes if you want better quality meats and vegetables; you might have to pay a little more...they are better than anything else in Mobile right now. Mobile grocery stores havent been the same sense Delchamps was sold to Jitney Jungle...then JJ promptly went into bankruptcy a year later. Having Food World as your lead grocer is not cool. A Publix around the McGill-Toolen/Murphy region would do wonders for East Mobile.
