Food World is hardly the leader in this market. More on topic, I think that the tract of land at the intersection of Dauphin Street and Sage Avenue will probably be partially developed for a Publix supermarket. At one point, a mixed-use residential development was proposed for that general area.

And Keeper is correct..they have great customer service. I will ask our manager for chorizos now that I know this....Thanks Keeper! The Latin products are abundant, more than any other store out here. The cleaning products, Publix brand, are also very reasonable and good quality.
Fruits and vegetables are a bit more than other stores...but again, buy sale items, or tell the produce manager how much they are at another store, and you will get that price. They did this in Atlanta, and I assume they will do so here also. It's a pleasure shopping at Publix and we are so thankful for them being here.

Humacena, you're so right about the bread. I spent about 10 years working as a Baker for Di Noto Bakery in the Bronx, so I know my bread and Publix is great, makes that spagetti dinner just like home. Also the sausage in their meat dept. is good too.

Folks, count your lucky stars Publix is coming to your town. I have shopped Publix since moving to FL in the mid-70s. I am certain you can find some prices are higher no matter which chain you shop. So many posters have given great ideas for saving money, so I won't repeat. However, do take advantage of the bogo offers. Those do add up quickly. I only wish PBX would move into my soon-to-be new home in the Knoxville area. Kroger is no match in prices, quality or cleanliness.

I would say Food World/Bruno's is the leader for our area. As far as the "Preserve at Midtown," that project is dead. They couldn't get the funding.

I would love for them to build at the corner of Cody Rd and Cottage Hill, as was mentioned in the original post.

As Publix enters the Mobile market, I hope they renovate/redevelop some of the larger commercial centers around the area. This may seem far fetched, but Publix would be a great catalyst for newer development at the Festival Centre. If the Preserve at Midtown is indeed dead, then Publix can certainly anchor a new shopping center nearby on the site of the old Dauphin Street Six multiplex, at the intersection of Sage and Dauphin. Cost World Market, Walgreen's and other retailers could certainly co-anchor that hypothetical plaza.

I would love to see a Publix in the festival center. I used to love the days when the festival center was actually not half-dead.

I went to the Publix over in Pace last week and it was okay. I think it was one of the old Albertson's stores that had been converted so it wasn't very big. Maybe the new stores are a lot better.
Off topic, but anybody remember Greer's? Are they still in business? I remember those stores being extremely nasty.

Yep, Greer's still has stores in the Mobile market. While the typical Greer's Food Tiger store is quite downscale, they do have an upscale-leaning grocery store with their Market formatted stores. There is currently a Market format store in Fairhope, and they're working to bring a Market to Downtown Mobile in a new strip mall development on Broad Street.
