Default Publix preparing massive Mobile market entrance

An email that has been spread like wildfire about Publix coming to Mobile County I can confirm that after contacting Publix, the woman (Tracy) I spoke with said "We cannot comment on the Mobile situation" So my guess is they are all go for a huge expansion, that despite the economy they know they can service the Mobile market like Wal-Mart and Winn-Dixie cannot....as in great service and great quality selection. I do wonder if Publix has made such a large move into a metro area like this before?

Here are the locations eyed:

Corner of Canal and Broad St, Satchel Paige Drive, Sage Avenue, Old Shell Rd (soon to be vacant Bruno's), Corner of Airport/University (soon to be vacant Bruno's), Corner of Cody Rd and Cottage Hill, Corner of Demotropolis and Halls Mill Rd (across from Lowes), and Saraland Loop (soon to be vacant Food World)

I find it interesting that only 3 of the 8 sites are not for new buildings. Guess the lease rates weren't worth it due to the locations. I think the Saraland store site would help the most and bring a much more upscale shopping center there.

Publix entered the Atlanta market in the mid 90s. Within 5 years they had almost 200 stores. They forced Winn Dixie , Bruno's , and others to pull out of the Atlanta market which is now controlled by Publix and Kroger. I must say Publix have real nice stores, good customer service, and a great selection of goods. Downside is they are very expensive, compared to some other stores. Best thing to do is take advantage of sales, if you can, get certain items at Walmart cheaper then do it. Then get the things you can't find and want at Publix. They definetly have the best deli and bakery around.

The corner of Canal and broas sounds good and the people around that area make a nice living as well.

Publix is not VERY expensive, when compared to other grocers in the markets they're in (W/D, Kroger). The quality is better, the bakery & deli are light years beyond other grocers, and the service is superior.

Like I said quality and service and deli/bake far superior. The only thing I see is that the price of a lot of common items is considerably more expensive when it's not on sale. I shop at Publix, Kroger, Walmart and Sam's. I get the items I want from whoever has the best price. I am not enslaved to any one company, I want what I want and I don't want to overpay.

I doubt they could overtake Wal-Mart, but Winn-Dixie may be in trouble. The Publix on Nine Mile Rd in Pensacola seems to be doing pretty well, but I haven't been in there yet.

In my town I have Winn-Dixie and Southern Family Market within 3 miles of my house, yet I still drive 30 miles to Wal-Mart. Even with all that driving I still come out cheaper at Wal-Mart.

I'm a fan of Publix. There are four in the Tuscaloosa area, and the stores always seem clean and nice, and the Publix in Orange Beach is the nicest grocery store in Baldwin County. You might pay a little more on non-sale items, but to me, it's worth it.

I myself stopped shopping WalMart as their prices continued to rapidly climb. I go to work at Tillmans Corner and hit Family Dollar, Dollar General, Big Lots, and then go to Food 4 Less to get my other groceries and Jimmy Lowes as well. I have saved so much money shopping those places than WalMart, not to mention MUCH BETTER service and quicker checking out.

Default Great shopping

I lived in Florida and Publix is a great super market. Once you shop there you will keep going and it is better than other markets. It is about time they explored Alabama. I live on Eastern Shore and very excited about Publix coming in. Now when are we getting Dunkin Donuts and Bally's Fitness?
