Default Can I move to Mobile w/out a Job?

I'm interested in relocating to Mobile from Michigan. I've been applying for positions online for a while with no responses. I'm assuming part of the reason is my out of state address.

I know that due to the current economy, it would be ridiculous to move to certain places without having a job secured first (because there are no jobs!), and I was wondering if Mobile was one of those places.

Anybody moved to Mobile recently without having a job first? If so, how long did it take you to find a job? Would you strongly advise against it? Any suggestions on what I could do?

I've been applying for clerical/receptionist type positions.

Thank you.

With the way the economy is today it could be risky moving into any city like that without a job. I do know that a telemarketing company will be opening in Mobile this June. Theirplans are to higher 500 in the first round, but all together they plan on hiring up to 1800 by the first of nex year. The company is called RYLA. Thyssenkrupt is still hiring also.

Good luck

That is really going to depend on the type of pay you are looking for. It doesn't take long to find an office type job in Mobile, but the rate of pay may be low.

Hi Prettywings, it is possible to move without first having a job as I have done that twice. I am not speaking from my knowledge of Mobile but from my experience moving around. The key thing is to have a good 3-5 months bill money saved up and be willing to take on "other"/temp jobs (leaving time to still go on interviews) until you get the job you want.
By the way are you a Maxwell fan (re: the name prettywings)

Thanks enide2, for your reply! I had completely forgotten about this thread...I actually moved to Houston, Tx instead (without a job) but found one a little after a month. But I did have bill money saved up (I paid 3 mths in advance rent and utilities), and I had a VERY unexpected mechanical issue with my vehicle, which I had to spend $1100 on.

Of course I'm a maxwell fan

I wouldn't move anywhere new without a job lined up unless you have enough money saved up to survive for 4-6 months in case you don't find one. If you do have the money ...

Oh, wow, I was thinking about Texas too until I met a woman last month who described the heat to me saying it could get up to 114 degrees (never heard of such numbers even in sunny South Florida-so that scared me away). Glad everything worked out and you've settled in.
