Moving to Mobile. ITT Tech
Hi, i'm thinking about starting school at ITT Tech in Mobile and need to look for a place to rent. Can anyone suggest a nice, relatively safe area to look for places to rent. The school is located on Cottage Hill Road so a short commute would be nice. Thanks.

Anywhere near any part of Cottage Hill Rd. will be fine. Your options are numerous. Where on Cottage Hill is ITT Tech?

I think it's near the side road that connects Cottage Hill with the back of Bel-Air mall.
LAstang, check out Sutton Place on University Blvd, it's just one turn from Cottage Hill Rd and not far from ITT. It's not fancy by any means, but I think they're pretty decent.

Just googled it and Southern is right - it is right next to Bel Air Mall. As long as you do not rent a house right by Bel Air Mall, you will be fine. Any apartment complex off Cottage Hill would be fine. Well, there are two exceptions. If renting off Azalea or Montlimar (area), then stay north of Michael Blvd. Also, do not stay at the complex that is at the very east of Cottage Hill towards Midtown, near where Florida Street starts.
Personally, I would suggest the following:
1) Bel Air Apartments (right across from the mall and safe/nice enough, 2-3 minute commute)
2) Pine Bend at the Hamptons (used to live there - it's off of Montlimar near Airport Blvd, safe/nice, 7-8 minute commute)
3) Any complex off University Blvd, for a 15 minute commute - but Sutton Place would be the cheapest (and is completely safe/nice enough).
You can get a studio in Sutton Place (which my friend has and is perfectly fine for one person) for dirt cheap. It's a good complex too, as mentioned above. It's directly at the intersection of University and Grelot ... both completely safe streets throughout.

^I agree with all of that from oscottscotto.
I would avoid Azalea Rd all together, there are some okay ones there, but if you're not from the area it would be too easy to get in a sketchy complex where you'd be miserable.
Generally most of University Blvd is pretty good, the one exception being 'Southern Oaks'. I looked at those units and they seemed a bit unkept to me. Not awful, but there's better choices for the money.
I recommend Sutton Place or Pine Bend.
