Speaking of which, can anyone provide any information on where these supposed livable lofts are located? Also, any chance of current lofts or those in development being in the $80-$120k range? If I were in town, I would simply check with some realters. But since I am not ... a link to websites that I cannot find or am too lazy to find would be nice . A couple of years ago, I do not remember many lofts being available downtown.

That's cool. Thanks. I guess I'll speak with a realtor about these when I am in town next for Christmas. Think any of these lofts will be in the 80k-120k range? There is no way I will spend 200k (which seems the minimum from my research) for a loft when I can get a great house for 100k (when that time comes) ... downtown or not.

Mobile Apt.
I had to leave Mobile unexpectedly and had a seven month lease on the apt.
I would be willing to pay two months rent and forfit the deposit if you are interested. The apt is across from USA and it cost $440 PER MONTH.

Like MidtownRuth said, the Windsor Warwick is in that range and a neat area, right across from the Flo Claire subdivision. By Winn Dixie too- you could walk to the grocery store!
I would want a house myself; I know there are plenty in that range around there like Leinkauf, Oakleigh Garden District and Old Dauphinway.

I love the Old Dauphin Way area. Used to coach youth basketball there. I'll check into the Windsor Warwick. Not totally "downtown" to me, but that area would be very convinient if I went back into my old line of work one day. And yes, a house is definitely the better - unless I could afford a loft right on Dauphin St. ... which I cannot.)

Thanks everyone for the info -- especially the list of lofts in the area (to Port City in particular). I also looked at the Windsor-Warwick. It looks nice, and I agree that it is a lot more reasonably priced. We have a place in downtown Gadsden which looks almost exactly like it in our Turrentine Historic District.

My neighbor will be moving shorty to a city called Chickasaw, which I believe is somewhere north of Mobile. Looking forward to visiting the place later on this year.
