Default Possible move to Mobile. Recommendations on places to live?

There is a possibility that I will be employed in Mobile by the end of this summer. I have a few questions I'd like to ask some locals first, though.

I am originally from Gadsden; so if anyone has been to that area, how does it compare?

The job would be in downtown Mobile; so is there a good scene around there for young professionals?

I really like historical areas; but would it be better to commute a farther distance?

Y'all know the vibe around there. Please inform. Thanks!

I'm not too familiar with Mobile, but what I do know is that Mobile has a lot of history. It is the oldest city in Alabama, or so they say.

Anyhow, I've been to Gadsden a few times since I'm not too far, but from the little time I have spent in Mobile, I don't think Gadsden compares. It's much smaller than Mobile obviously, so there's more than likely a lot more to do.

Have you tried going to Mobile and looking around?

I agree, take a trip down for a weekend and check out the different areas. See where exactly your workplace would be in Mobile, and check out the areas that would work for you. Also would want to explore the Daphne/ Spanish Fort area just about a 15 minute ride on the other side of the bay. I'm sure others will chime in with some ideas also, good luck you'll find something ya like.

If you are working downtown, then you will most likely want to live in Midtown or directly across the bay in Daphne/Spanish Fort. Midtown will be alot more "historic".

Say goodbye to the hilly terrain of north Alabama, the southern half of the state is very flat.

On the bright side, the flatness is a little better on your transmission

I would definitely not recommend West Mobile, especially for a young professional who is interested in history and the like. There isn't any culture and not a lot to do. Check out midtown/ downtown (Oakleigh, Leinkauf). There is no reason to have a long commute if you are working downtown. Also, look at this website for Mobile Area Young Professionals. MAYPA

Yeah they mentioned history and culture west Mobile is lacking that. Any areas near Murphy Highschool and areas of Dauphin street would be nice as well. Living in a nice loft downtown would be nice.
