maybe moving to mobile
My husband has been transferred to Biloxi, MS. The cost of home there is way overpriced in my opinion. We are looking to rent something in the west Mobile area with plans on buying as soon as our house sells in Keller, TX.
Can anyone help me figure out the best area of west Mobile, since my husband will commute, for my triplet daughters to enroll in school. I understand there is a lot of new construction going on in west Mobile. Next year will be there first experience in school and I really want to pick the best area that fits us. We are looking for a very family friendly area that is safe and fun. I love the gulf coast area. Someone my husband met recently mentioned Daphne/Fairhope, however, we were hoping to find something on the western side of Mobile because of the commute to the Beau Rivage in Biloxi.
If anyone can give me some insight I would really appreciate it.

You're only looking at a ten mile difference from Daphne.

We have family in Hattiesburg, MS and they told us that the commute to Daphne/Fairhope is 1 1/2 hours or more. With the casino business he will work a lot of weekend nights. So we were trying to make the 2am commute as short as possible. I just need someone to tell me if the extra few minutes is worth it. Schools are definitely a reason to commute, however, it is possible we will send our kids to catholic school.

I just left you a message in another thread, but since I am new I am not sure which one. Sorry!
The schools in Mobile are the worse in the State of Alabama. I would strongly suggest that you visit this link, removed For what it is worth, there is NO way that I would ever try to raise my family in Mobile. I live on the Eastern Shore where the schools are top notch.
Good luck in your quest. I hope you are able to find what you are looking for.

austin
I left a message on the other board about Keller. It is my fault I posted on two boards. I am new to this and in my nervous quest to get information on Mobile, I posted on two different boards. Many apologies to board management and any others.
I have not been to Austin, but my husband has and says it is a cool place. I am from the south and he is born and raised in Las Vegas so we have different definitions on cool places. If I can help anymore with Keller, Ft. Worth and any surrounding areas, please tell me what I can do since I still live here.
The property taxed can get high depending on the neighborhood and city, but as you probably know there is no state income taxes. It is a great place!

curious...
why are you all moving to Biloxi and not Las Vegas.
I would have to have some extra incentive to go there to reopen that casino.Think you'll transfer again once they are up and running again? If thats the case I would move to Spanish Fort specifically Timber Creek. It's the ONLY neighborhood that could be close to what you are used to .

vegas
I lived in Las Vegas for 10 years, that is where I met my husband. We got out of there as soon as they passed gaming in Louisiana. Vegas is too big, but we still have family there. It is great to visit, but wouldn't want to live there again. If we were to get transferred to Las Vegas it would take a lot to get us to go. Fortunately for us, there is gaming all over the country. We lived in Louisiana, Shreveport/Bossier City for 11 years. Parts of Shreveport were really bad, but our experience was great. We had family there, though.
The reason we agreed to go to Biloxi is because we have family in Hattiesburg. Right now we love where we are, but not being near family is tough.
I will check out Spanish Fort. Thanks a lot!
