How's the crime in midtown/downtown these days/nights?
I have a question? How much of downtown is it safe to walk around at night? Is it better to stick with the crowd and not park too far away? Like, how far north and west?
My wife and I will be moving to midtown soon, and sometimes here we walk around town in the middle of the night (in Japan) and she asks me if we can do the same thing in Mobile, and all I can tell her is, where we will live, probably, but it's not Japan (where you're more likely to kill yourself than to get killed by someone else, 500+/- murders, 30,000+/- suicides per year).
How often are there robberies/muggings/worse around midtown and downtown these days? I don't plan on taking 2 hour walks at midnight, but I am curious about how things are. When I was living there, I didn't think about that too much.

I would just use common sense. I don't feel unsafe in midtown, but I lock everything up at night. If you do get robbed, however, more than likely it will just be your yard equipment. As for downtown, the same goes, just stay in the main kinda corridors, Dauphin, Royal. You know what I mean, lit up, open businesses... The north is still pretty rough, so that would be one place I would use more caution. Just know that it is a lot better than it was 10 years ago.

Agree with midtownruth
Mr.crabb the Toulminville community isn`t part of downtown or midtown.
I rerely hear about muggings but robberies are most within areas such as Toulminville,Prichard, and Trinity Gardins. These areas of are no where near downtown are midtown.

Used to teach in Toulmanville my man. It's not part of Midtown. Good people in that area, but crime definitely exists there.

Well, to be fair, those areas are near Midtown/Downtown in my opinion. But they are defintely not in what is known as the actual areas called "Midtown" and "Downtown"

Agreed. Near, but not the actual places.

Think Happy Hills would be a good place to relocate to? I'm sure I would never have to run into Mr crabb there, although I'm not sure that I would be able to go out after dark.

LOL Happy Hills isn`t as bad as it use to be when I was younger.
Oscottscotto : Crime has risen in the Toulminville area becasue of the relocation of Orange Grove housing residents after Hurricane Katrina. Orange Grove and Toulminville never got alone, but now they are in the same community.

Yes, I know a couple of people from Toulmanville and it has gotten worse since then.
