I'm going to be moving to Mobile or the general area soon. New job new town. I'm coming from Nashville just turned 40, but I'm a life bachelor young at heart yada yada. so what is a fun part of town to occupy? Music, beer, maybe a cool apartment community,ie not dead???

Downtown! Dauphin Street is the heart and soul of downtown and is the arts district. There you will find bars, clubs, restaurants, the Crescent Theater that shows indie films, sushi, everything like that. The second Friday of every month is the LoDa (Lower Dauphin) ArtWalk, which is always fun. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of options downtown unless you want a loft. Your best bet would probably be Windsor Warwick for an apartment, which isn't too far, but you would have to drive to get to downtown.

 Thanks Ruth,
Not much into sushi, I had japanese exchange students for room-mates all through college. The smell of that mayonaise or whatever it was ....whew !!
great folks though.
Guess I'll have to hunt around. Maybe an old warehouse for rent. I'm kinda into alternative living spaces anyway. I have noticed, like you said, there is a notable lack of downtown apartments. I really don't want to buy a place until the economy settles down a little.

That is probably worth looking into. Most people around here don't do that kind of stuff, haha. There are some run down kind of areas around downtown, mostly immediately to the north.

I'd rather buy before things settle down and prices go up.

DeTonti is a great area that not too long ago had its own little boom. That's slowed down some now, but still great location if interested in downtown. 5 blocks from Dauphin St. Not familiar with actual apartment, but seems to be a pretty good set up.
