What do you like about Mobile?
I've only been to Mobile once which was almost 10-12 years ago to the battleship, but I liked it. Now I plan on moving there in June or July for USA.
But I want to hear from residents and vets on what they like about Mobile and what makes it better than other Alabama cities

I live 50 miles northeast of Mobile, but I lived in west Mobile for a couple of years. I can't say if it's "better" than other Alabama cities since it's the only one I have lived in, but I liked it okay. There's pretty much a "live and let live" attitude and most people mind their own business, I guess that's why I don't understand the whole "what church do you go to?" thing that so many Alabamians complain about. Maybe north AL is more religious? If you like seafood there's definately an abundance of that, just go to the causeway. Beach is only an hour away, which is not bad. You'll get to experience Mardi Gras without the risks in New Orleans (although it gets ugly in Mobile at times ). Greater Gulf State Fair is fun in October, and there's also the Pensacola Interstate Fair just an hour away. Mobile has it's bad parts and it's good parts just like any other city, and you'll learn those areas fairly quickly.

I'm a native so I have quite a bit to complain about but there are some things I enjoy about Mobile.
I like the Oak trees, the old houses in midtown. The French and Spanish architecture. The interesting history. Many good restaurants. Most people are laid back and easy going. The proximity to New Orleans and the beaches.
Even though most people dislike them, I actually enjoy hurricanes. I don't enjoy the death and destruction by any means but the excitement and anticipation more or less. It's a rush for sure.
Also the economy seems far less affected here compared to other cities I've been to recently. Mobile seems to be growing rapidly, which could be a good or bad thing.

I love our food, culture, proximity to the beach,French and Spanish architecture.
I love the historicness of the city, I love the charecter that midtown and downtown has. Like and earlier poster mentioned before Mobilians do know how to mind there own business. The city has several options when it comes to night life.

Midtown is basically the slice of pizza shape on a map that makes up the area between Govt Blvd to the south, Broad St to the east, Spring Hill Ave to the north, and I-65/Sage to the west (with a few exceptions like OGD, Leinkauf, Ann/Texas, etc.).

Gulf Coast Imax Exploreum and Museaum is located downtown at the corner of Water and Govt st.
Midtown takes up a nice portion of Mobile there are areas that are considerd midtown that I didn`t know that are part of that slice OSCOTTSCOTTO was talking about.
Privet: I never really thought about it but hurricanes could be a rush at times, lol.

Well, the slice I refer to is "in general" .
Of course Crighton (sp?) and areas in Pleasent Valley by the mall aren't really considered Midtown ... but are in that map-slice (as it's easy to refer to Midtown "in general" that way for me) .
