Unfortunately the living options downtown are pretty slim pickings. There is the Tower on Ryan Park, Mattress Factory Condos/Townhomes, Carriage Works, O'Gywnn, the 2 condos above the Crescent Theatre (think they are asking too much), and a few others. Not sure if there would be anything, don't know your budget. The Tower on Ryan Park is probably your best bet (apartments). Of course, if you don't mind living in a bit of a fringe area, there are quite a few nice old houses surrounding downtown that are fixed up and for sale.
The Market in the Square is the market I always go to. I think there is one out at Municipal Park? Over in Baldwin County (over the bay) there are more roadside markets, and we always stop at Burris Farm Market on the way to the beach.
The Winn Dixie downtown(ish) is about to undergo a make-over, and they will finally do something with that old empty pharmacy. Should be nice.
On a side note, Janinos in midtown has been closed for quite a bit, Port. They are about to re-open as a second Osman's (open for lunch). Can't wait.

Someone mentioned Irish pubs above. Mobile has them? I've always wanted to try some Irish beer.

CroYE22: Yes Mobile has a couple of Irish pubs but the most famous one in our area I would say is Callaghan`s Irish Pub in the Oakliegh historic district they have live music as well I believe.

Also over in Baldwin, just before you get to Burris Farm Market is Cain's Grocery, excellent meat no additives or any of that other crap in their stuff. Also if ya keep on going down 59 to Robertsdale there's a place on the right called Farm Fresh Meats, awesome stuff, try a pack of their hot dogs( blow your mind). Also as Ruth said their are many smaller family run produce stands along the way,and the best place to buy your shrimp is a place near Hub City in Robertsdale, place looks like an old gas station.

In Daphne, there is also Hazel's on Hwy 98, Barbara is on the corner of Fairhope Av and Church every day(for 37 years)except Sun and Mon, in Fairhope...great prices also. Also in Daphne there is Allegri, on 181 and 64...produce, cheeses, meats, breads... Plenty of fresh produce all over!
