I'm moving to Daphne, Alabama..need some help
As I said, my girlfriend and I are coming to Daphne from Sandusky, Ohio in the second or third week of November. She is 39 I am 38, she hopes the there are alots of retail employment oppurtunities around, where as I am looking for warehouse or manufacturing in Daphne or commuting to Mobile for work. We were looking at relocating to tillmans corner, but I read in the forums that there isn't much to do, and the crime rate is higher there. O.k let me get to my questions... 1) Recreation- Are there beaches and parks near by in Daphne, or do have to drive down to the Gulf? 2) Is the commute to Mobile A big deal since I only see one bridge in or out of Mobile? 3) I seen in the Mobile newspaper plenty of warehousing positions available, this is my main background, will I have difficulty in finding this type of work? 4) No were not rich! So I'm looking for a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment, what can I expect to spend? 5) Does Daphne have its own newspaper or is the Review newspaper from Mobile the only newspaper? Thanks for your input!

There are parks in Daphne and more in Fairhope. There is no beach per se, but plenty of bay and sand...not to be confused with a beach, even though Fairhope has a great park/pier and so called beach. The nice beaches are in the Gulf, an hour drive.
Mobile Register has a Baldwin section. That is where you'll find more info on Daphne, as it is in Baldwin county. The Eastern Shore mall is your best bet for retail jobs. There are 2 roads that lead to Mobile from the Eastern Shore (Daphne), one being the Causeway and the other I-10. There is not traffic like you'd have up north, and only when there is a wreck clogging the tunnels, it gets to be a problem.
I think you'll be much happier in Daphne than Tillman's Corner...for sure. You can also check out Spanish Fort and Malbis. Good luck!!

That pretty much covers it. I would prefer Daphne, Spanish Fort, Midtown Mobile to TC. Commute over the bay shouldn't be too bad, unless there is an accident. Cost of living will probably be less, as it is relavtively low here, especially compared to up north, although wages are somewhat parallel.

You'll likely spend around $600-$700 for a one bedroom apartment. A friend of mine used to live at Bay Breeze apartments in Daphne and they were pretty decent.
Like humacaena said, the tunnels are the #1 problem with commuting to Mobile (in my opinion). The Wallace Tunnel is like a bottleneck during heavy traffic.

If you're looking to save money on the cost of your house and insurance, go 1 exit up and check out the Loxley/Robertsdale area. Less congestion, closer to the gulf beaches, only about 10 minutes to retail opportunities in Spanish Fort/ Daphne or the Tanger outlet Mall in Foley. Also you'd only be about 30 minutes from Pensacola. Rents on houses and apartments is also cheaper, lots of friendlier country people, less of the snobbish ones.

Comparing Tillman's Corner to Daphne is like comparing the worst part of Detroit to Boca Raton, FL. It's night and day. I lived in Mobile my whole life and just moved over to Daphne a month ago. It is so much nicer over here. The only gripe I have is that there is not as much to do and people seem to roll up the sidewalks at dusk. I had a hell of a time finding dinner at 10pm on one Friday night, which was VERY frustrating. Then again, the price I pay for the inconvenience resulted in a nice home, in a much safer area, cheaper auto insurance, and just the lifestyle in general is nicer.
Not to seem rude but the clientele of the stores/shops here is much better. Go into Winn Dixie in Tillman's Corner then come to Daphne and go to that one...or better yet, go to the Publix where I go in Fairhope. Night and day.
I have been to Sandusky, OH, before (went to Cedar Point), and I can't really comment on the town as I just went straight into the park and straight out. It seemed like a pretty small place though.
I think you should just rule out Tillman's Corner for good. There's nothing great about that place, and you can live inexpensively in Daphne despite what some others say. My car insurance dropped 30 bucks a month by moving over here; however, my homeowners is sky high.

Yeah I'd choose Daphne over Tillman's Corner lol.
Unless you are a goofy white teenager that thinks ICP, Korn, and Slipknot are cool.

^^^ LOL well in that case they would fit in well in the Tillmans Corner area.
