Yes we need to manage our forests in Montana but like previous posters have said, we aren't allowed to do it.
I would much rather see some responsible forestry--even clearcuts if they happen to make the most sense for an area, than to see one more McMansion come into this state. At least it would still be wildlife habitat and not some rich person's playground.

Great Falls is a wonderfull place to live
Consider the good variety in shopping (second only to Billings) and at half the size. People say Great Falls is a 'big town', but at 59,000 it's not so big. It's spread out with plenty of room for more. Excellent city services and then with even more variety in restaraunts, bars, casinos, golf-courses, clubs, schools, Universities, churches, and just about anything else you can think of. (Also look into local sports, semi-pro basketball & foot ball)
All and all, your looking at a great place to retire, or raise a family or have a good time. As long as you have money at least.

Finally!
Gosh, I'm glad somebody got back to the original question. I thought there for a minute that this thread was about sanctioned by Al Gore!

Gee, most all the things that most cities in CA boast about... I always thought people moved to MT to get away from all these things

i live about 60 miles south west of billings in a town of Absarokee and there is a TON of places there to live or buy up cause of all the fires there lately and the schools in abasarokee are very educationally sound and there is so much fishing and hunting access there on the stillwater and rosebud rivers. The winters here can get bad but hey its montana if you dont like the weather wait 15 mins it will change

I have heard in the past that Montana residents do not welcome any person that is a native of California.

If you read through past posts on this subject the answer will become clear to you. No need to regurgitate...

My vote would have to go to Bigfork.
Even though I'm not living there right now.. ..I have 4.5 beautiful acres on Flathead Lake that I love!!
To me, Bigfork is perfect.
Wish I was home right now.

Best Place to Live in Montana....
....has to be Bigfork. Small, quaint, artsy kind of town. Surrounded in beauty. Big enough to provide great restaurants, art galleries, shops, golf course, marinas and small enough that people care about their neighbors.

Bigfork sounds like Burlington. A nice place to live with nice people as long as you are not a working person. Don't you people realize that you are out pricing hard working people with your golf courses, marinas and $385K homes? The problem you keep hearing about on TV is YOU!
