moving from philly!! help!!
Hey everyone,
I'm moving to Sidney, Montana come late summer/early fall. I'm moving from the suburbs of North Philadelphia. I have no idea what to expect as I am pretty accustomed to a certain way of life. The city life, with dozens of restaurants and shopping and dance clubs and bars. And the congestion, and all the people of course. I also need to find a job out there. Any advice from anyone? What does everyone do in Montana, anyway?
Optimistic always,

start reading the local papers and this web board. I don't know anywhere in MT that has the nightlife you are used to or for that matter the shopping etc. and that is the draw for most. I would suggest you vist before you decided this is the place for you, as has been said before, this state has chewed up and spit out many newcomers.

Sidney is near ND right? I'm not familiar with eastern MT but if you require those things I think you're going to be very unhappy. Just a hunch. I moved to NW MT from a large city and have been thrilled with my decision -- lots of outdoors activities. I'm curious about why you're moving there.

Hi whatsupitdani,
Thanks for the humor, as I'm taking your post as a spoof......If however you are serious I've put a link to the Sidney news paper.....I didn't see an entertainment or dining section - hummm, there are however an agriculture and obitutuary sections.
I'm being flip, but I think the most exciting thing the Sidneyites do on a friday nite is kick the cow **** off their boots.
'course maybe you could liven the place up when you get there, open a strip club or something of that nature
Just curious - why Sidney ?

In Sydney you're at least 300 miles away from the nearest dance clubs and shopping (Billings, Regina, Winnepeg).

after you move to sidney we will be able to google 'culture shock' and your picture will appear.why sidney???there are less then 5,000 people in the area and its not near anything.i'm sure for some its an ok place but from your discription of your lifestyle i cant imagine why you would want to live there.

thankx for all the replies everyone, and i apoligize because i havent been able to reply until now. haha, and yes itll be a cultural shock. but im also a nature lover, and the newfound quietness might actually be good for me. im actually from north carolina, so i have lived in small towns before, but im moving to sidney simply because my boyfriend is taking a job out there. life in philly may be fast-paced, but it was never really my style. honestly, im exhausted and looking forward to the change...im just not sure quite what to expect. perhaps what i have in mind is totally wrong. even so, i cant wait to get there!

One thing you will find in Sidney is an oil boom. Thats good and bad: easy to find jobs. Prices are high, relative to the rest of Eastern Montana.
You will definitely be in for culture shock, but I think you may learn to enjoy it.
Personally, I find Sidney too much hustle and bustle. But then I live in one of the last great, unfound spots in Montana. Sheridan County.
And I'm not too worried about out of staters moving here. No mountains.
A few 40 below nights a year keeps the riff raff away.
Hell, we could use a few more folks moving here. We practically have to give away houses and lots here.
