State Income tax?
I have a question regarding Montana state income tax....is it a certain percentage of income? Or simply a flat percentage? Sorry if its a silly question, my husband and I are being relocated to Bozeman for work (we are in Washington state) and we don't have state income tax here. Thanks in advance!

It is a heafty portion of income. you can go to MT.GOV for more info. As near as I can figure it is 7% (the following is from MT.GOV)
A taxpayer’s Montana adjusted gross income is based on their federal adjusted gross income but may be higher or lower because some types of income are taxed by one level of government but not the other.
Not to sing the same "sad-sack" song over and over, according to stats we are among the lowest paid highest taxed states in the nation. Not my stats, just ones I've read. You do get used to it, it's worth the view.....

Hi, and thanks for the information. We are fortunate in that our company has given us a 16% cost of living increase so we can at least attempt to survive there. 7% is about what I've been hearing as far as state income tax. Thanks again!

wrong percentage...?
Er... I haven't been coming up with the same income tax rates you two have... our family is billed 11% and that's what I find on most sources regarding MT taxes. Hooray for us, we have the highest income tax in the country. Woo-hoo.

I just went to the MT.gov site which is where I got the 7%. I guess if you are part of the working poor it's that low but if you make somewhat of a liveable wage they really hammer you (10% for 45k). Man that's steep, I didn't realize how bad it was until now, just paid the price to live here
