I am sorry to hear of your loss Elkhunter, this has been a tough year all around so far.
I have to take my father back in for his second stint, so I will be loosing another week of work.

I guess the joy of friends and family must be tempered with the sorrow of loss so we appreciate those closest to us while we still have them.

My friends who passed on earlier this year were outstanding friends and family men who led good lives and who left a lot of good memories to those who knew them.

I guess the memories and the folks who love us we leave behind are our legacy, and if that is true, then our friends who have gone past the horizon left us the best present possible. A life and friendship great enough that we mourn their absence, but celebrate the life.

My thoughts are with you and the family of your friend.

It's just been one of those years. Hopefully the rest of the year will be better.

Had a real rodeo this morning. Normally, I go out at sunrise and feed and water the horses. Then I come in and shower and fix breakfast. I do that for a reason and this morning was a perfect example.

I go out to feed and my walker gets hung up in the mud, ass end over teakettle in the mud. I finish feeding and come back, get undressed on the porch (only a couple neighbors whistled) because there is no way I'm going in, covered with mud. I take a shower and run out of hot water trying to get mud out of my hair, so I finish showering in cold water. I am still setting on the couch, wrapped in a blanket, shivering. It's 20 degrees outside, then end up with cold water in the shower. I don't think I'll ever thaw out. hahahahaha It's 11:30 and I still haven't had breakfast. Guess lunch will have to do. If I warm up enough to cook lunch. hahahaha

It snowed during the night and now it's raining. I have never seen it rain when it's this cold. It's going to be a real mud pit tomorrow.

It is still raining hard here. It's zakly 32 degrees. We just got a Winter Storm Warning and they expect to dump 8 inches of snow on Spots.

It's already a muddy mess. Can't wait to see what this will do.

Yesterday, while in town, I bought a new mop. I had a swiffer sweeper that squirted juice and I really liked it. However, in order to keep up with mud around here, I was spending $20 a month on juice and mop towels. So I got a new one that is terry cloth and you take it off and throw it in the washer. I bought a couple extra terry cloth heads for it.

I mopped today. Looked really nice, mop works great. Then the dog had to go out. Now it don't look so good. hahahaha What's a person to do. I need a girl friend. Think I'll run an add.

"Needed, girlfriend. Must have tractor and be willing to mop cabin. Please send resume and picture of tractor."

Good idea... I've got 2 kiddos and 2 dogs... Thankfully we have a mudroom to get all the stuff off, and the dog beds are in the mudroom so if they are muddy, they don't get past go.

I always come home from work dirty.. lol

Speaking of dirt, I had a person bi*** at me the other day because I'm the only person at work that gets to wear jeans regularly.. Everyone else wears a uniform or business dress. My answer was "Because I'm a dirt magnet and don't get a uniform allowance." I get dirtier than the patrol guys, work more than the detectives (jk, those guys put in their hours)and I'm in the backcountry for 1/2 to 3/4 of the time doing my duties..

I've pretty much got the best job in the county. I manage electronic stuff that I enjoy playing with, have nobody to babysit, get to climb towers on top of mountains, ... (the views are amazing) get to help find people with the SAR folks. and the boss is happy as long as everything works. All that said, I have a hard time finding volunteers to come with me when it's -20 out and we have a problem...

When there is a problem, I've got over 300 people, all carrying sidearms or wielding fire hoses that are pissed off... I could be swiss cheese and washed away in the blink of an eye.. (Needless to say I'm a believer in preventative maintenance... )

On a more somber note.. (I'm combining 2 posts into 1 because I'm lazy today)

Godspeed to your friend EH.. This stuff usually comes in 3's, I'm not sure how many you have seen, but I hope it's over for this year. I'm on 2 and I've had enough funeral time for a while...
