Oooh, side pork and french toast, I'll be right over!!

Where it floods, everyone has a basement. Where it never floods, houses seldom or never have basements. What's with that?!

So what sort o' fishin' tales did you tell the poor bloke? Since reporters will believe anything.

Just looked at the highway-cams... fresh snow at Elk Park, Lolo, and Lost Trail. Kinda lookin' like it's gonna be a Year Without A Summer.

Coffee's on. If your inclined, you gotta bring your own mocha, lattey, creamer crap. We drink it strong and black around here.

Going to be a day of putting all the sandbags back in place. River has come up 2 ft in the last 24 hours. Last night, the river was right at the top. Another 6 inches and it will be on the property. Snowmelt is going to be nasty this year.

I'm wating for them to show up with my FEMA trailer and credit card.

That is a heck of a front. I think I'd have been digging a storm cellar had I saw those coming.

We haven't had any rain since last week. Thankfully. It's very green and lush here right now. Better then I've seen it in years.

Ick. Where's the hot water and tea bags??

FEMA decided my place is a flood zone (I'm at the top of the ridge where it never even puddles up no matter how much it rains) and delisted the whole rest of the area (some of which is presently under several feet of water; Edwards Dry Lake looks like an ocean). Consequently Chase decided to change the terms of my mortgage contract and charge me $2800/year for FEMA flood insurance (over time, if this goes up at the same rate as my homeowners insurance -- which is only half as much -- it will total at double the value of my property! I'm better off to walk away.) So far I've refused to pay. I just got notice that Chase is the object of a class action lawsuit because of unilaterally changing our contracts to require this FEMA flood insurance. Next time they demand money I'll be waving that at them instead.

Another wonderful thing about FEMA is that they won't pay unless you're in a federally-declared disaster area -- doesn't matter how flooded you are, if it's not declared a federal disaster area you get nothing.

Having looked at a bunch of the new FEMA maps, and been told about a bunch of unfloodable mountaintops they've lately decided are 'flood zones', I think they're rigging 'em so they'll collect money (make up the deficit from Katrina) but never have to pay out. They delisted the Santa Clara river too, and I've seen it with 40 feet of water in it and running over the bridge deck. Now it's got new houses built all the way down to the bottom of the wash. Hmmm...

Beautiful Photo EH, like that here on the prairie but there is nothing but mud under that grass here...
and yes those clouds made me feel very small in the universe and just realize I have only my faith to hold to!

I guess they wanted to have all their troubles at once...
Hope they saved the house... doesn't look like the fire has gotten very far yet in the photo.
