This time of year is always a mix of feelings, I am all done now with September goodbye, now mine last for longer as they are now scattered.
That is great that she is going back! Safe drive. BTW 70# hardly qualifies for a puppy.

I found a lady in Boise who makes an all natural mosquito lotion......it works really well......no poison in it at all......it kind of feels like SPF sun lotion when you put it on...does not stink....has lemon verbena in it, I think...(no citronella)... My neighbor had a little bit of it----his friend had bought some before they went to Africa and used it.....they got NO bites in Africa.....he loaned it to me and I tried it....ordered some from her the next day....got it within a few days.... She makes this stuff in her kitchen......grows her ingredients....she's prompt with her correspondence.....I'll use this forever.......
Elkhunter, can Wurzig post a link, this could be a lifesaver as the skeeters are carrying off my dog as we speak.

...........Yes, like EH mentioned, The Rattle Snake Vaccine is a good idea, if you think your dog will EVER have the possibility of encountering a rattler.

My Brittany is 5 1/2 now and I him innoculated the first time at 11 months.

It's protocol of: 1st time is two shots (30 days apart.)....then an annual booster shot every 12 months. My dog has not ever had any negative effects from the vaccine.

The company is: Red Rock Biologics headquarted out of Calif. (Very interesting Web Site. ) The vaccine (like EH said) is very much "like an insurance policy". (its effective for all 12 species of ratters that are common in AZ.....EXCEPT....The Green Mohave Rattler, which injects a Venom that is classified as a NEURO TOXIN---one that attack the Nervous System of the victim and is fatal over 90% of the time on humans and almost 100% on dogs. If a dog gets hit by a "regular" (not Mohave) rattler ( there is really no way to determine if it is a "DRY BITE" or not. The vaccine gives you about an additional 8 hours to get the dog to the vet. If it is a "wet Bite", the toxic effect from the venom is reduced by about 50% and reduces he possibility of death by at least 50% or more. I've seen the result of bird hunting dogs down in AZ that have been struck (wet bite) by a Western Diamond back and not taken to a vet in time. The amount of tissue distruction and disfigurement is shocking----if the dog lives.....they are never the same after a full dose wet bite!!

The most dangerous rattle snake bite is from a young snake.......until they are fully mature, they cannot control the amount of venom they release when they bite.....sooo the dog (or you) get a FULL dose----which is bad. Adult rattlers can control the amount. from a very little to a "full shot"....all depends upon the circumstances of the encounter.

Regarding No-seeums: Yes we have them by the JILLIONS this year in the Missoula/Bitterroot Valley area. Attributed to the abnormally wet spring and early summer.

It approx 850 miles Windsor to Missoula......considering a fuel stop, lunch stop and tourist traffic in route.......I'm "gonna guess" 13 hours....."Now be honest on this, & let us know accurately......how long it takes you." I've done the Boulder, CO to Missoula area about 20 times over the last 30 years and it always takes longer than I anticapate. And don't forget: Wyoming "Smokey Bears" just "love" to nail Colorado drivers. Drive safe........................

Sure would... and not just for tourists. I never knew most of these oddities were there even when I lived near 'em!
