I just had an exciting end to a dull day. Now that I look back at it, I find it funny. But about 45 minutes ago I think my pulse was about 300 going on overdrive.

I was just wrapping up things on the puter and Timber decided she needed to go out. Kind of odd for this hour o fthe night, but I figured I'd let her out, one last time.

Opened the front door and walked out to the top of the steps. I was going to stand there and enjoy the nice cool evening. Timber walked out and stopped at the top of the steps too. Then something growled at us, a deep gutteral growl, and then it huffed. I didn't think my olf fat butt could move that quick, but it was a race between Timber and I going through the door.

I waited a few minutes and got to thinking I'd better check to make sure the horses were ok. So I grabbed my Savage 12 with a slug at full battery, and a flashlight and went back out on the porch. I spotted him/her, I'm not going to get close enough to determine for sure if it's a him or her. But I'd guess it's about a 150-200 lb black bear standing about 100 feet from the porch. I come back inside. Those percheron's can take care of themselves with something that small. They run off a 500lb Griz while on the Alaska trip.

I'm not going outside unless I hear the horses in trouble, but I really don't think there will be a problem. I'll check for tracks in the morning. hahahaha

There's just something about that deep, gutteral growl, in pitch dark that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up. hahahahaha

Dang, I was busy today but the most unusual thing I did was cook bacon on the patio at sunset.......don't like the smell in the house...... The only things growlling on the patio were mosquitos. Hope the horses are okay......and you, and Timber, too!

By the way. You can't see Yellowstone and the Tetons from I-25. Those are the Big Horns that are up close and if you do see the Tetons, your eyesight is really good because you are looking almost 200 miles.
My daughter is a good kid........I wish good things for her. Thanks for the nice words.

Well, I'll be dam*ed..... There are so many turnoffs for Yellowstone....

I was so PO'd and my mom says.."its okay.. we dont need a garden." That made me cry..lol
I sniffled and pouted like a baby and cried and said... We may not NEED a garden... but I WANTED a garden! " Waaaahhhhh
Now I am so disappointed. Plus I never got the amount of materials I needed. People promised me all sorts of things and then never delivered. Figures.
I'll see what I can do this year but I will be saving up for supplies to try to do it better next year.
Meanwhile... I can always feed the humming birds.
This year is an experiment for me.....next year, I am not going to mess with seeds for the most part, (except radishes, etc)..... I did everything right--good soil, plenty of sun, right amount of water, kept them indoors--- and once planted, my seedlings haven't done that well at all......the ones that went into the ground right before we drove to MT. went into shock or couldn't survive the chilly nights... In this area of CO. they use Mother's Day as the 'time to plant' rule, but we had a lot of early warm weather so many gardeners jumped the gun..(and I followed their lead)....sigh

I planted quite a few (newly purchased) plants last week......and threw a few seeds directly into the ground.... With the new stuff, so far, so good, but I will be gone for 10 days and will ask the kid to water.......and hope that we don't have any hail with thunderstorms......

Chin up, Ma! I know how you feel but don't give up!

Quick check this morning, the horses are doing fine and so are the chickens.

We have one wander through here every now and then, maybe once or twice a year. That was the first time I surprised one enough to growl and huff. hahahahaha

Maybe you need some bear spray?

Montana on CNN just now, about the rapes at UMN and federal investigation. Only one football player has actually been charged.

-snip -.
When they sell bear spray with night sights, I'll give it a try. Any weapon that says on the label, "Best results if you are within 15 ft of bear" is not something I want to experiment with in the dark.

Yep! It's been going on for a few months and imho, kept under wraps for too long.......one problem is that the Missoula city laws need to be updated--and the way that it is handled at school level, and the way that the school connects to the city needs to be changed......reporting it was a mess in the beginning--the dots with the hospital, school and town need to be connected.....emails were carelessly written and have now backfired.....what a mess. The original girl checked out of school quite some time ago, but more than one girl has come forward.

Schools treat football players like gods, not just in Montana, but everywhere....that sport = revenue.

As luck would have it, it's raining this morning. Weather report all the way to South Dakota says rain withe severe, possible damaging hail in South Dakota. So I'm taking the truck. hahaha Also, the high today is supposed to be in the low 60's. I don't mind riding at that temp, but I'm not going to ride all day with a raincoat on at that temp. Just ain't gonna happen. haha
