My daughter was told she needs bear spray, I am afraid she will spray herself with the stuff. If you ever have to use that stuff, it is nasty, I think it is better to wear bells and avoid bear encounters. After all, when that stuff sprays, you would get it on you too...great plan. **** off a bear, and incapaciatate yourself at the same time.

Why is it SO COLD out there!!!!! What the heck?! I WAS going camping this weekend...forget that!!

Opened the front door and walked out to the top of the steps. I was going to stand there and enjoy the nice cool evening. Timber walked out and stopped at the top of the steps too. Then something growled at us, a deep gutteral growl, and then it huffed. I didn't think my olf fat butt could move that quick, but it was a race between Timber and I going through the door.

I waited a few minutes and got to thinking I'd better check to make sure the horses were ok. So I grabbed my Savage 12 with a slug at full battery, and a flashlight and went back out on the porch. I spotted him/her, I'm not going to get close enough to determine for sure if it's a him or her. But I'd guess it's about a 150-200 lb black bear standing about 100 feet from the porch. I come back inside. Those percheron's can take care of themselves with something that small. They run off a 500lb Griz while on the Alaska trip.

I'm not going outside unless I hear the horses in trouble, but I really don't think there will be a problem. I'll check for tracks in the morning. hahahaha

There's just something about that deep, gutteral growl, in pitch dark that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up. hahahahaha
Holy Hanna EH, I am expecting that to happen to me anyday now...

A cold wind and dry flakes that have not accumulated (yet) all day here in Bozeman. It will be this way all weekend. On Monday, I'll have to reconstruct my plastic greenhouse.

I'm back from my trip to South Dakota. Rained all the way to the South Dakota state line and then started snowing. On the way back, it rained all the way until I got to Buffalo Wyoming and then it started snowing.

I do have the calendar flipped to the right month, don't I? It says May. That's right, isn't it? hahahahaha

35 Degree's at my place, right now and it's raining at a steady pace.

Most bear spray comes in a container with a trigger that is guarded, much like a pistol and is difficult to point in any direction, other then where you intend it to go. Having said that, you need to be a meteoroligist to predict which way the wind is blowing.

I was up in Billings a few years back and watched a drunk come out of a bar and start picking on a homeless man. The drunk was completely out of line, but was unstopable, or so he thought. The homeless guy reached into his backpack and pulled out a can of bear spray and fogged this guy at about 5 feet. The guy dropped like you had hit him in the forehead with a 4x4. He couldn't breath, he rolled around on the ground moaning. EMS was called and when they got there, they immediately gave the guy oxygen and threw him in the ambulance and took off. A police officer said that he didn't think the guy was going to make it. I never heard what happened. But look at it this way. How many articles have you read where a person used bear spray and hurt themselves. Exactly none. So either it hasn't happened, or people were too imbarrassed to report it.
