I lost 2 uncles in the Pacific Theater. That was before I was born, but I think of them every Memorial Day. My father picked up a couple of Purple Hearts in WWII. I served from Viet Nam to Dessert Storm. USN. Thank you, one and all.

On, this date, I will devulge a difference.

On this day, I respect my uncles, my kin.

Back in the 70's I had to bring a friend home. They detailed me to take my budy home. Charley was a good friend. He took care of the ElkHunter. He did more than that. Charley was my spotter. He took one through the scope.

I had the opportunity to take Charlie Home. I took him to Wounded Knee South Dakota. He was a friend, he was a confidant.

Our best friend died of cancer in February....we buried his ashes down at Miramar, (kinda near San Diego)...... His wife, also our best pal, went there today.....she said his area, (which didn't even have grass in it yet when he died), is filling in fast....she took a pic and sent it...his headstone is surrounded by quite a few.......

Was a medic and proud. Loved to serve and would still do so..

So Doc Watson died.... A part of Appalachia gone forever. I recall many, many fond memories of listening to Doc's picking around a campfire in West Virginia, usually around hunting season as we sang Will the Circle Be Unbroken.

Come'on in Doc Watson, pick us away to the Promised Land.

I did my tours in Bosnia and Kosovo, and during the Iraq and Afgan conflicts I was on a ship keeping watch on other hot spots while the Army and Marines were otherwise engaged.

When I was a kid there were 2 men living down the road, one had been on the USS Lexington at Coral Sea and then Midway, the other had been on the ship that pulled him out of the water after the Lexington was badly damaged in the battle, and later went down.
After the war, Chuck was part of the fleet doing tests on the atom bomb.

I remember their great stories, especially after a few rounds of Chuck's homemade chokecherry wine

It was in part because of those 2 great old men I joined the Navy.

I remember them well and wish them fair winds and following seas beyond the sunset where they sail now.

Yes the greatest part of my nursing life is the quiet moments when the vet feels the need to talk at 3AM

Hello neighbors, I think my ole Oregon duck moss feet are back, love the NW part of Montana. Took a trip over to Billings and got homesick for green again.
