Rez's Rule of Butter:

If you can still see the food -- there's not enough!!

I know someone who uses the same rule... for pepper.

Anybody can stay on for 8 seconds, but it takes a real man to ride her to a stop.

On Friday of last week I was running this roller. We were chip sealing a subdivision. The roller had no brakes, so you just slip it Forward, Neutral, Reverse. Let the transmission slow you down and stop to go in the other direction.

I was on a pretty good grade and needed to reverse direction. Engine coughed and died. I started rolling down the hill. I put it in Neutral, started it up, reved it up, put it in Forward. Engine coughed and died. I was gaining speed. I put it in Neutral, started it up, reved max rpm, put it in Forward. Engine coughed and died. I actually got that 15 ton roller, airborn. Completely off the ground. When it stopped, it leaned up on it's side and I looked over my shoulder at a 40 ft revene, and then the roller righted itself. 15 minutes later I was on a different roller. It took 3 wreckers to pull the old gal out of the weeds. Told the boss I was just trying to park in the shade. Sorry the first picture is fuzzy, but it shows the size of the roller. Second picture is where I parallel parked it in the apple orchard.

A little stiff and sore, but Timber and I walked away, that's the important part.

Wow Elk, you could probably take that act on the road and sell tickets!

I was thinkin' how much the parking situation would improve everywhere if Elk practiced his parallel parking in a less rural setting. There'd be plenty of room at every curb!

No, I don't think so. Once was enough. Total run-a-way was about 300 yards, with most of it backwards. At the end of the day I told the owner to just write me a check, I'm done, and don't call me until you fix your equipment.

They brought out a big Semi Wrecker. Hooked onto the roller and promptly broke the boom on the wrecker. He left and a little while later, another semi Wrecker showed up, along with 2 regular wreckers. With all 3 hooked to it, they pulled it out. It was funny, nobody would crawl up on the roller because they didn't trust it on the edge. I told them I would get up there and help best I could. They wouldn't let anybody up on it.

Musta been the weekend for road warriors. Saturday my landlady had someone pull out right in front of her on the highway (she was in Idaho, must be the local thing -- I sure saw a lot of that there!) when she's going 70mph, and SMACK. Her car flew about 300 feet, did two complete flips in the air and then nose-down an embankment and wound up standing on its ...remaining front end. She escaped with just heavy bruising where she hit the seatbelt, underdash, and windshield, and the baby (1 yr) with nothing but a little bruise on her forehead. Hospital told her to go buy another of whatever brand of carseat the kid was in, cuz it sure did the job. Car's whole front end is sorta gone. The other driver got busted up some but should recover.

She's decided that was enough flying lessons for now...!!

Wow! Glad she and the baby are okay. Gee, if that happened to me coming home from Costco, I would be dead from flying stuff.

Well, see? You should pack your car tighter. If there's still room for stuff to fly around, you're not done shopping.

Aren't you glad that some things are not perfect? They are flawed? They are just not the same.

Imagine if popcorn was perfect. When you got the oil hot and poured in the popcorn, they'd heat for a minute and then they'd all pop at once. Talk about a mess. There'd be popcorn all over the kitchen.

I see that Elk has been experimenting with new ways to make popcorn.
