Price-check! Turns out Montana-owned Whalen Tire is within a dollar or two of Walmart, for about the same quality of all-season truck tire (well, the one at Whalen is made by Cooper, which might be a better tire than Walmart's custom-model Goodyear). Guess who's getting my business.
Frost on the pumkin's around here, this morning. They called for mid 30's, but it got colder than that. Slept like a rock, with my window open. Farmers says, mild to normal. Normal as in last year, or normal as in 1983 when we were buried with 3 ft of snow for weeks? I think it's going to be a nasty one. More storms, heavy snow at time, very cold temps in the -30 or worse range.

Yup, I'm guessing "Locally owned". Am I close?

Mild to normal, as in the 1960s, when we didn't see our car for 3 months cuz it was buried somewhere on the street?

Yep... well, guy said the founder is from Butte. Close enough.

lol.

Just picked up an old Sears JC Higgins .270 bolt action. Built around '55-'60. They were built by Hi-Standard with chrome barrels and 98 Mauser actions made in Belgium. Sleeper rifles! One of the best made guns of their day.

If you can find one in a gun store buy one. Two calibers .270 or 30-06. A true gem of a gun from an era where they built great rifles.

I'm putting a new Redfield scope on this one and giving it to my 14 yo son.

Sweeeeet! That is a gun that your son will pass down to his son, and he'll pass it down to his. Taken care of, it will last for ever.

I have a Sako in .270 I haven't shot yet. This is the first .270 that I have ever owned.

Back in the day this rifle was a few dollars more than a Winchester 70, now they are less than half of what you'd pay for model 70 from that era.

Winter has started early, for sure. How do I know this??

We're having a chinook. In September.

Fact that it ain't snowed down here yet notwithstanding. Warm winds that start in the night... temperature went UP after 9pm. It's a chinook, all right!

Well, better an early chinook than none at all!

No snow? We had snow all night Wednesday and most of the day Thursday with some Thursday night. Mountains are white from about 4500 ft and up, but we didn't have anything stick here at 4000 ft. Then today, it melted some in the mountains and now they are white from about 7000 ft and up.

I stripped all the mators and peppers off my plants. Well, all but 2 on each plant. I wanted to see how the frost effects those plants. They were a different kind of plant and I want to plant the exact same stuff next year, so wanted to see how these hold up.

Next week is supposed to be warmer through most of the week.

I hauled 6 dump truck loads of dirt in here on Wednesday, late in the day. Then took the tractor and leveled them all off, not 20 minutes ahead of the front that brought in rain and snow. Just in time so that the rain really caused a soggy mess, but it's causing it to settle nicely. I am looking forward to winter, just so I don't have to fire up that old dump truck anymore. Seem's I've had more time in the seat this summer, than I've had time not in the seat. hahahaha
