I grew up with Norwegians and Swede's. The neighbor lady had what looked like the top off a wringer washer to roll out lefse, however, the rollers were only about an inch in diameter and were a hard rubber. She run them through, tightened it down and run them through again. About 4 or 5 passes did the trick. This aparatus she had, clamped on the edge of the counter. The handle/crank was parallel with the counter, like a flat steering wheel. Don't know if it was something her husband concocted, or if it was made for that purpose. It was the only one I have ever seen.

I don't know why it couldn't be used. As long as you are doing pie crusts, why not flour tortillia's?

So did I, but all my Norske relatives rolled out their lefse by hand! With one o' them dimpled rolling pins.

The 'newer' wringer-washer mangles I've seen had hard white rubber rollers instead of wood (smaller than the wooden rollers, too). I'll bet it was a case of good ol'fashioned Viking ingenuity.

That's wind chill, isn't it, not real temp in North Dakota?

Here at my cabin it's -8 right now, giving it a windchill of -34. Windchill is how it feels on bare skin, so I figure if I stop running around outside nekked, I'll be fine.

Yes, Friday, Bozeman was warmer than Las Vegas! I was running around, no coat. Bit windy though. Went to a new restaurant there, really good, on Main Street, Pho, huge bowls of noodle soup! Reasonable prices too.

Hell if I know. Mebbe ND just wanted to rival MT temperatures for a change.

I think it depends how fast you run. If you stand still, you'll be fine.

Wow. I had all you can eat, Ramen Soup with noodles, from my kitchen and I didn't have to drive anywhere. I feel privilaged. hahahaha I love chinese food and Vegas has some really good Chinese food. I spent 10 years off and on, in Taiwan working on Government Contracts, so when I eat Chinese back here, I'm pretty particular. Believe it or not, the BEST Chinese food I have found around here is in Rock Springs Wyoming. Little place with only 4 tables. All Chinese tables are round, and seat 7 people. So when you go in there, you are going to be seated with other folks you don't know. With traditional Chinese, the food is brought out in bowls (like home) and placed on a lazy susan in the middle. There are no serving spoons or forks, you are expected to use the chopsticks you are eating with, to dig more food out of the community bowl. I've done it so long, I don't even think about it.

Last week, there were some temps in North Dakota that were higher than Miami, or even places in San Diego. This week, not so much.

I just took a look at all the airports in North Dakota and Teens below zero is about the norm right now, with a few in the minus 20's. Most places are looking at -20's and -30's tonight, but that is what is forecasted. Tomorrow is the day when it is really going to be nasty. We currently have 30mph sustained winds at -7, and gusts up to 45.

I got my union suit on this morning, bibs (regular), wool socks, wool soft shirt, a couple hoodies and a jean jacket to brake the wind, and even put Timbers coat on her along with her goggles, and I went out and plowed snow. The 4 wheeler groaned a bit, and complained a lot, but finally farted and started up. There wasn't a lot I could do with the wind, but the way my cabin sits, I get a drift that centers on my steps and goes straight out. I wanted to bust it out while it was still only about 3 ft deep. That 4 wheeler is sweet to plow with, but when drifts get more than 3 feet, I hit it and it just bury's me. Not a desired result.

It sucks when I hit a drift and when it stops me, all you can see is Timber standing on top of the toolbox where she rides.

Today was the first day of this year that I made her put on her coat and goggles. She wasn't happy with me at all. Course, it was -9 outside and 40 mph winds, so I wasn't going to let her ride without her coat and goggles. Almost put her boots on too, but didn't figure she'd need them just standing on the toolbox, and I wasn't going to be but about 15 minutes.
