We got up to +5 today! While I was cutting wood, I had to take off most of my Eskimo Suit.

See, they say that firewood heats you up, 3 times. Cutting it, splitting it, and burning it. You proved what my dad tried to drill into my head, many moons ago.

Ha. He should have used a power drill. You just can't get kids to sit still long enough to use a bit-and-brace.

Today them three heatin' ups was 1) digging it out from under the snow, 2) fighting with the stupid table saw, cuz the chainsaw is busted, 3) hey, the pipes are thawed!

So how's your snow? We have plenty, thanks. If it keeps up, well, here's what y'all need to get around where even the plows dare not come:

Instant Monster Truck: Converting Cars into Snowmobiles | Urbanist

Track N Go | Track N Go

Move over, you puny little snowmobiles, afore I crunch ya!

That's slick. We see a lot of vehicles that have been converted to the tracks, but they're not like these that you can convert, play and put back to normal, quickly.

We had about 3 inches of snow at 7am when I took snow samples, however, right now it's snowing so hard that visibility is about 500ft. Hey, we're on the plus side of the thermometer though!

These are for 4 wheelers, but they make the same for pickup trucks.

Nice. And now I'm wondering if a person could take a 4x4, strip off the cab and bed, and just fit something like caterpiller tracks to the wheels. Lotta work but sounds like a fun project!

We are staying in this weekend. SO says he wants to go to Bozeman, forget it! I stocked up last night in town, we are home bound this weekend.

Jasper had a bite of bacon this morning, as all lazy Saturday mornings must include slow cooked bacon, he wants to know why I am still in "his" bed!

Ah..... how ya gonna steer?

How about putting these kind of tracks on the back of a regular 2 wheel drive vehicle, and put ski's on the front wheels? I'm thinking there must be a reason they haven't done it.

Hey, I didn't get rid of the drive train or steering, just the cab and bed. Get 'em out of the way so the tracks can run beside the frame. Otherwise you gotta lift it WAAAAAAAY up!

But if it only goes in a straight line... well, get outta my way!!

Um... how do tanks steer? independent side to side? I suppose it could be done in a truck...

Tanks, caterpillars, skid loaders all steer by slowing down one side and letting the other side round around. Same as brakes on a farm tractor. When you get to the end of the field, slam the hydro, stomp on the brake, and let go of everything when the scenery looks right again. I grew up on a dryland farm in Eastern South Dakota, can ya tell?
