My goal is not to have a run and gun field trial dog. My whole intent is to have cooperative gun dog. I take all the scoring with a little grain of salt, but hey if the lug gets a perfect score I'll crow a bit!

This was all natural ability and yesterday was a lucky day. He was so raring to go- he was second in the line up and it was KILLING him to see another dog out there working. At one point he leaped into the air about 4 feet and almost backflipped on the lead. He wound up flat on his back with a loud "Ooomph"

Everyone was like holy crap is that dog revved!

It was really cool- He worked the field like a champ. I really didn't have to train him to follow my hand signals or check in when I whistle. He gets it.

However- if I do run him thru Utilty Prep Test and he scores well, his stock as a stud goes waaaaay up!

For a bird dog being just 15 months, I'd say he is doing exceptionaly well. Most folks don't realize how much time, patience and consistancy go into working with a bird dog to get him to this point at this age.
You should be very proud of your efforts and the results achieved. I hope your son has the interest and desire as you do..........a great father/son combination for years to come.

hey everyone!
just checking in to say howdy and let y'all know I am still alive. Hot here in Alabama. Had a scare last week with the tornadoes but we made it through just fine.
I have been very busy trying to get this yard cleaned up. Found out from the land lord that in the last 6 years none of the previous tenants did any yard work at all. Overgrown shrubs, tree limbs, garbage and those darn nasty !@#$%!! thorny vines all over the place.
going to take a while to get this place looking decent.
Mom and I are fine. We are enjoying the new place even if I am having to work my butt off trying to whip it into shape. I have to stop and take a break several times due to the excruciating back and leg pain.. but by golly I am gonna have a nice yard one day.
Anyway, i just wanted to check in. Hope everyone is doing well.
Talk to y'all later.

Well, one mud boot, one flipper.

Been watching it rain all day off to the West. Also been watching the river rise.

I knew I should have played hookey last Thursday, Now I've missed summer completely!!
Had to turn on the backup heat last night, new snow on the hills right outside of town too.
BRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

I have got to get out and get some more wood before the snowpack rebuilds, so I better take off next week or the snow will be too deep to reach my wood lot!

Like my old Pappy always said, Montana has 11 1/2 months of winter, and 2 weeks of poor sledding.

Boy, am I so over winter this year, but it just keeps coming. I guess it will be good for the fire season thought, harder to start the woods on fire when there's snow on it.

Ya know, that may be the problem... we rely on fire season to warm us up. Ain't no fire season, so ain't no summer.
