Here's hoping everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with lots of rich dressing and a big slab of pie or two.

I chose to stay home this year and broil up a big elk steak. For the first time in years, I didn't go out and take snow measurements to send in a report to NOAA. Instead, I grabbed an extra blanket, raised the head if my bed and turned on an old John Wayne movie.

Talked to our friends in C-Falls who were without power from 0200 yesterday to when we talked to 'em at 1600hrs. Not sure when or if it came back on but it shut the town down.

Today is my birthday, I turned 61. Let me tell you how my day has gone.

I woke up at about 5 and decided to turn on some old westerns and hunker down a little deeper under the quilt. Kind of dozed on and off so not sure what westerns or how they turned out.

Finally, about 8, I couldn't take it anymore so I went in to was the sleep out of my eyes. Crap, no water, the plumbing is froze up. Went and looked at the monitor of my weather station and it was 12 below zero. Now normally, when the weather gets down to 10 degrees, I set the bathtub to drip. It is the last thing in the plumbing circuit, but the last couple days were in the 60 range for highz, so when I checked the weather last night the icon showed sunny, so I didn't read the description. My fault.

Everybody should have a landlord that is as responsive as mine. This has happened before, it is no big deal. I just go out to in the well house and put my ceramic heater in there and put the lid back on. Takes about 10 minutes and I have water. The landlord can see the well house, so I called him to let him know what u was going to do. Keep in mind, its Sunday morning and its -12. I hung up the phone, put on my insulated hoodie and grabbed my scotch hat. I went out the door and around the corner and found the well house open and Mike standing there in Pajama's, a robe, and snow boots. No hat, no gloves. I set the heater in there and plugged it in. The GFI plug was tripped so the heat tape wasn't working. either. We had some minor flooding last spring and the GFI plug was mounted low enough that it might have gotten wet and tripped. So in reset it and put the lid on. I went out and collected my snow samples (got 5 inches of new snow last night) and went inside to melt the samples and send in my reports.

I had the bathtub faucet turned on and sure enough about 10 minutes went by and I heard it blow. So I went in and set it to trickle and headed outside to retrieve my heater and close up the well house. When I got out there, I found that Mike had remounted the GFI plug at the top of the well house. He had also put a 4 connector power bar mounted up high and connected to the GFI plug. My heater was now setting on a little stand instead of setting on a 2x4 on the ground. I retrieved my heater and closed up the well house.

About a half hour later, Mike knocked on my door and he had just come from the chicken coop. He handed me a dozen eggs from the free range chickens. Hell, he just gave me a dozen eggs about 3 days ago.

Happy birthday, Elk! You're just slightly four months older than I am; I was forced to retire from the Canadian Armed Forces in April because I turned 60. A bit of trivia, I believe that you and I are pretty much on the same latitude, but 2000 miles apart. Anyway, have a good one!

You can't beat that kind of delivery, even if they run up on the grass a bit. hahaha. Thanks for the birthday wishes!

Well Elk, I hope you had an enjoyable Birthday and also that the weather changes toward the warm side.

Speaking of the weather, is the river that flows by your place frozen over or do you still have some sections that are 'open water?
