My neighbor was gracious to bless me with a meaty hogs head, 2 livers, 2 hearts, and some pork scrap bones.

I'll be making a batch of ponhaus (scrapple) this weekend.

Boil the meat until it falls off the bone-

Add some onion, celery or whatever you want in the broth.

Grind the meat fine-

Put back in the pot with the broth, add buckwheat flour and cornmeal (50/50) and mix like crazy until it pulls and stays from the sides.

You have.. Pon haus..

You need to add salt and pepper to the broth to taste. Some like it more salty, some more peppery. We kinda split the middle and add it when we cook. Good eats people, good eats...

Here's a fun idea -- imagine doing this in farm-and-ranch country, with ag professions represented.

I was up in Westby bird hunting. Left on Fri 10/9 and wound up staying through Sun 10/18. Bagged a lot of pheasant and ATE a lot of pheasant, lol. Driving home I stopped and filled up in Plentywood, then headed out to Scobey and then through Opheim and down a little east of Glasgow back to the hi-line. Between Scobey and Opheim the cab started smelling of diesel BADLY. I pulled over and somewhere I was puking diesel in the engine bay, down all over the driver wheel well and the front rear quarter.

I couldn't find a leak on the inlet line, or at the injection pump.. Seemed to be a little lower down. I took the calculated risk that I could make it to Glasgow for repairs. Made it, went to an RV park and popped my truck camper top and settled in for the night.

Monday morning I go to a local repair shop- the lower return line (a hard line) had ruptured open. Beyond braising no less. Part no where in stock anywhere within easy driving distance, so it had to be overnighted from Denver. 2 day layover in Glasgow. Wound up having dinner with a friend Monday night, so all not lost, lol.

Made it back home last night late. I had been in my camper, with my two bird dogs 11 nights. Talk about testing my love for my dogs, lol. Whew- what an adventure!
