I went outside a couple of hours ago, and what did I see??? Fire ants were all over the back steps. It's a year round ant, wasp and bug battle in this place (even with the colder weather). Hey, at least your cold weather and snow would kill the insects. Yep, it's a never ending problem with insects here, and it is a pain in the rear!!! Give me one good snow to kill 'em all!!! AND, I'm still sneezing from allergies!!!! Let's have a good freeze tonight!

My wife freaks out on snakes and bugs. There is no way I could ever get her to go down there.

I've seen it a couple times on the NOAA.gov site (local conditions) and wondered WTF myself. Maybe the wind was blowing backwards??

I still can't figure it out. haha

Glad it's calm out right now. It's currently -23. Tomorrow is supposed to hit mid 20's, the next day mid 30's and the next day mid 40's. Go figure.

Sounds like a chinook wind upstream from ya

BTW according to the last wind chart I saw, ND is windier than eastern MT! and maybe the windiest state overall, at that.

It's 38 degrees outside, and the stinking ants are still around (although much less). However, I did notice that they are now a bit more "docile" due to the cold. Rickers, you are lucky to be where you are. It honestly sucks here. No place is perfect, but I'll take MT hands down.

PS Just saw a hawk with flying away with a snake yesterday. That snake was huge!!

Funny when we bought our place out here I asked about termites and carpenter ants, standard back in Oregon.
Big ole grin broke out on the fellers face, well hon, he said it just gets too dam cold for them here, no fleas on the dogs either!

I know about fireants in Alabama and flying cockroaches in Texas! In San Anton they fly up on your dinner plate and take it.

but we have snakes, rattlers, figure that one out?

One of the fire ant killers I used was mixing a runny paste out of Cyan pepper, tobasco sauce and pepper then pour it down and around the hole. One of two things happens, either they die or light up smokes and ask for a tecate beer!
The other thing I recently used was a propane weed burner. Turned the dirt/sand around and down the hole into glass!!!
