We solved the heat problem by going and sitting in the creek, it was running at 50 degrees, was very nice to cool off.
The smoke that was another thing not much to be done.

Us too, quick float on the Flathead cools you way down! As for the smoke, it seems the same song different year.... I wonder if we will ever get a warm summer and no fires?

I doubt it, fires seem to be the theme of Montana. knock on wood our area has not burned, but its due, records indicate the last major fire was like 1910. "South of Anaconda" We are looking at the cultured log cabins made in Missoula seem to be fairly fire proof.

Wow, I didn't realize it got that hot there. Sounds like here in Virginia. It's been in the high 90's for like a week and a half, with high humidity. It's awful. I'm a stay at home mom, so I don't have to go outside if I choose not to. And so I've stayed inside in the A/C. My poor boys...ages 2 1/2 and 4...think I'm the wicked witch of the west for telling them they can't go outside to play!! The "sitting in the creek" idea sounds like a good idea for all of you sweltering!!

Yep, Butte even made a new record this year - hottest July in Butte EVER recorded in history. We stayed in the 90s most of July, and lately I've seen humidity at 40% or above. I work in a three story building with no A/C. Sucks to put it nicely. But today is nice and cool, as have been the last couple days. AAAAAHHHH, relief.

Meanwhile, here in the SoCal high desert, it's the coldest summer anyone can remember. We had one day at 118 (which is as hot as it ever gets here), two days at 106, and the rest of July it barely crept up to a paltry 102 (but more often not quite breaking 100), and yesterday it only got up to a chilly 88. Normally we spend the whole month at daily highs of 110, with a couple weeks at 115 to 117.
Oddly enough it hasn't been cooling down at night -- normally we have a 40 degree daily swing, but all summer it's only been getting down to 80 at night (until this week, when it's been going down to 60). Even more odd, we've had quite a few humid days, which is almost unheard-of here. (Tho our definition of "humid" is "above 10%"
I think MT must have got our summer by mistake!!
And just before I started this post, we had an earthquake. Must have been serious somewhere, or else practically underfoot, for me to feel it at all. (Normally I can't feel even big ones here!)

We hit 104 here in Richmond yesterday...broke the record by 3 degrees, with the heat index making it feel like 112. The forcasters predict close to the same for today. It's HOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!
