Default Horse theives and theft

Is there a fair amount of horse theft in Montana?

I was wondering since the state is so close to the Canadian border where they do slaughter horses for the market?

Default horse theft

There is no horse theft in Montana for slaughter in Canada. The idea is perpetuated by the movies, etc.

If only that were true.

There have been data that horse theft and those horses being brought to slaughter is true. More so now, with the increase of horse meat demand in Europe. Can get a pretty good price here to send a horse to slaugter.
1 month ago, an average size horse, one could get $450 for their horse to go to slaughter. As young as 2 yrs old.

Has anyone else heard of the horse theft rate in Montana?

I am just wondering, because I am checking out areas to relocate to, and that is a factor.

Thanks
