Help! I have a new job in Sidney, I live in western Montana now, and I am getting very concerned about housing in Sidney. My initial search for housing (buying or renting or even RV's) does not look good. It's just me and my wife and we are not picky, our daughter, son-in-law and our grandson live there...that's our primary reason for moving there, any ideas out there for housing?

Searching for housing in Sidney is like looking for a rent-controlled apartment in NYC. To be honest, you'd have better luck finding the apartment.

The housing situation in Sidney is exaserbated by a number of things. Sidney's plat is full up to the property lines of surrounding farms. The surrounding farms are largely irregated sugar beet farmers and will not to sell for any price. The oil industry is hiring anyone with a pulse and somewhat passable drug screen. Sidney does not want to grow in size as they were harmed very badly in the last boom in the 1980's. Surrounding towns such as Williston and Watford City have the same issues.

The best bet is to speak with Beagle Properties or Nick Jones realty. They do know most of the landlords and are willing to give referals or phone numbers. I will state here that if you have a pet, you will not get a rental. The landlords, by and large, do not want housing/rental stock problems due to pet smells and yard damage. RV parks will be full of drilling rig workers and the park prices will be very expensive.

If you don't have to live in the same town, Glendive, Miles City or Plentywood may have something.

Default Thanks guys.

I was offered the job in Sidney, but after researching the housing situation, it is obvious that there is a problem. The vacancies (sale or rent) are sparce and expensive. So I took my hat out'a the ring. Im going to stay put. Thanks for responding.
