I am from South FL, the heat , crowds, high prices, and my mother just got to me.
Can anyone either give me some encouragement or just tell me I'm plain nuts.
Also, I have been homeschooling my son, it is way too much for me having to work and am thinking about putting him in a public school. How is Whitefish High school? He plays football and wrestles.
other questions: 1. can a native South FLorida girl like me learn to drive in Snow? i just bought a 4x4 just in case i make this move.
2. what are the chances of being attacked my a wile animal (grizzly, mountain lion)?
3. What city in NorthWest MT would be considered the best to raise kids?
any thoughts would be appreciated, any one is thinking about moving to South FL, I'm the one to talk to, in fact, I'll talk you right out of it!!

Roxie,
You came to the right place!
First, no you're not nuts, far from it in fact. After living in the Charlotte area and seeing Ashville I can see why you might want to move from there. I was a founding member of the Wave, we joined before they opened and were members for the last 2 years. I know they are always looking for good people and suggest you talk to Art or Rock to see what they have. You can also look at Summit fitness which is owned by Kalispell Regional Med Center and they are usually hiring both for the hospital (PT) and the Summit.
Whitefish can be pricey but I know of a couple of parents in your situation, one who works at lowes and she is doing just fine. If there is no housing in Whitefish that meets your needs there are plenty of outlying areas to look at. Columbia Falls is one and Evergreen is another and there are pockets of places around them.
Whitefish High is a good school, but does have a problem with spoiled kids of parents with money. You might also want to look at Kalispell schools who seem to have the best AP courses and they just built a new high school that will have a very good music program. Some of my son's friends are leaving our school to go there as out of district kids just for the programs.
As for being attacked by animals, you have a better chance of being hit by lightening! This area will remind you a lot of Ashville except for the hippies and we get more snow. If you or your son wants outdoor activities this is the place both summer and winter, and is a great place for teens to find work now. There have been a big influx of new stores and restaurants lately and all are competing for people, in fact the new movie theater is paying $7.75 hr to start with raises for good performance and free movies for the kid.
The big plus I see here is kids are safer. You can send them out in the morning and know they will come home at night (unless they do something stupid like jump off a cliff or something) but school shootings and kid snatching haven't been an issue here (knock wood). There are no gangs here but like everywhere else there are a few dirt bag kids and adults, just not all over.
If there are any specific questions I can answer PM me and I will do my best.
Good Luck!
