I was going to switch this over after the first day of fall. But due to unusually warm weather, I think I'll leave it up for a while yet.

Any predictions on this winter? I'm thinking, warmer then normal, but much heavier snowfalls then normal.

What's your guess?

......OK Elk, I've been living right here on the same piece of ground since early 1980, and have observed the various patterns of different specie(s) of wildlife (gathering nuts, pine cones, birds eating seeds on bushes, Browns starting to come up the tributaries (that feed the B.R.), the turning of the Aspen ), Canada Geese using certain areas (as related to the calender), bucks rubbing velvet (again as related to calender), etc, etc,etc.............So my guess is as follows:

Above average temps (by just a couple of degrees) for about the next two to three weeks....then pretty much a "normal fall" until about 11/15. Then look for a dramatic weather change that will continue on into December.....from then on we will be colder than normal ....(I hope not like the winter of 80/81 when I had minus 42 twice within a 3 week span)..... and we will receive above average snowfall well into March.........(NOTE: The above "Crystal_Ball" forecast is for the area west of the C.D. from Kalispel on south down to Sula.) That eastern 1/4 to 1/3 of the state (which should be called "West Dakota" anyway.........is a "different-breed-of-cat"......no guesses from me on that area.

Default Red flag cancelled West of Billings. 9-28-2011

The Red Flag Warning for areas west of Billings has been cancelled. The Fire Weather Watch remains in effect for portions of eastern Montana. A cold front moving through the region tonight and Wednesday will bring gusty northwest winds to the area. These winds, with gusts to around 30 mph, will combine with already dry conditions to cause increased fire danger across the east, even though slightly cooler temperatures are expected.
