If you want to move to Montana fine but go first and line up a job, especially in the current economy. Now if you have at least 6 months of income that you can live on, go ahead and move without a job. But, otherwise it would be a bit foolish to do so.

First off, I'm sorry that so many people take it upon themselve to try to teach ethics instead of answering your questions. Thanks Cptrn for actually answering and providing INFORMATION about Montana.

Some quick question for the OP. What kind of country are you looking for? Montana has it all, from Mountainous and lots of snow to Mountainous and less now, to prairie or broken hills with no trees. Most all of it is cold in winter and make no mistake about it, Washington has had nothing to compare. So picking an area is important. You sound like you have great work ethics so work is almost always available for a person with your attitude.

The North Eastern corner of the state is going through an Oil Boom so high paying jobs are plentiful. Trouble is, lots of jobs and no place to stay. If you can find a place to stay, prices are very high. Strong back, lots of hours, but the pay is worth it. Might look at Glasgow or Glendive or some of the small towns in the NorthEast corner. In that area, finding a house or apartment is more important then finding a job.

Hopefully more people will give you insights on Montana. Welcome to the Montana Forum.

Yeah. ^^^^ What Elk said.

As for the work/jobs situation, I understand your willingness and skills. Hopefully the advice given here is merely to warn you that there are few jobs available and lots of folks applying for each these days.

But you have enthusiasm and determination, Leviathan. You'll probably land on your feet, so long as you don't mind a few bumps in the road.

Hope to see you in the neighborhood. It's a big 'un!

Good luck,

Northeastern Montana needs people for the oil fields, badly. We're talking Sidney, Glendive, that area.

I do see a "boom" coming lol. One thing to keep in mind is the area surrounding the oil rigs. Alot of folks want to move here to be in the mountains. Eastern Montana is not the mountainous part of the state. Like I've said before Montana is a sacrifice state but those who really want it do just fine. I think you can go online to see about the oil rig jobs in Montana.
