I would say Cut Bank and Browning are the coldest most often but it can get freeze you buns off cold all over the state. I've seen -40 (not wind chill) on a few occasions, and definately below 0 a few times a year.

The coldest I have ever encountered was in Sydney in 1974. The temp was -30F witha 32 mph wind and the chill factor was -92F.

I believe that Wisdom quite often ranks as the cold spot in the lower 48 during an average winter.

West Yellowstone is the coldest, unless you count Cooke City as a town, in which case Cooke City is the coldest. Wisdom is also extremely cold. Rogers Pass (which obviously isn't a town) has the record for coldest temperature in the Continental US at -70. That does not include the wind-chill.

As you watch the local stations' weather forecasts, you should find that West Yellowstone is, by several degrees, almost always the coldest town they show. Especially in the warmer months.

I'd have to agree with jimj - Cutbank is one cold place. Butte was COLD in the 80s, but seems very mild now comparatively.

I vaguely recall that way back when, Wolf Point or Culbertson had both the hottest and coldest temps recorded for that year in the continental U.S. You've Been Warned.
